vBook: PSU vs Michigan

I might actually have to root for the weasels this week. Who else is going to beat PSU? After all THEY ARE PENN STATE (in case you didn't know).

Yes, at State College their fans made it very clear to us that they had some not clearly defined, yet strong association with all things Penn State.

scUM's gonna get destroyed, in my opinion. Let's see...the opponent association game is weak, but in this case it's hilarious! Gophers beat scUM in the big house by 3. PSU puts 41 on Minny. Fun. Seriously though, if Michigan wins, do you want a bunch of idiot scUMers getting all in our faces about how they knocked off Penn State but we couldn't?

Seeing how high PSU got amped for last weeks game, I just can't see them getting up that far again this week. Let down is real, PSU loses. Away game, the week after (what they made) the biggest game in the last 5 years, an adequate defense, and a getting healthy offense. Michigan wins, JoePa will be lucky if it isn't a blow out.

The question is, will Penn State suffer a letdown after their great win against the Bucks? I don't see it. Joe Pa has this group right where he wants them. He is the master of what we like to call "Tresselball." Now he's got the tools to do it. He did it to us--he will do it to a lesser opponent (ie, scUM).

JoePa taught us what it feels like to lose to us.

As much as I hate to say it, I have to root for the (puke) bad guys, too.

YUCK!
I'm not catholic, but if I'm glad for a bad guys' win, am I allowed to ask forgiveness from a priest in confessional?

keep in mind we have to root for longevity for carr as well. JoePa's actually dead, they just built a robot up there in happy valley (they hid some of the unfinished wiring with those two dozen towels wrapped around his neck).

Yeah, and Iowa killed us last year while Michigan beat them and yet we pounded Michigan. You're right...the opponent association game is weak.

PSU doesn't have 109,000 folks routing for them this week, they have 110,000routing against them. They also don't have a sloppy field helping them slow own their opponents offense.

The weirdest part about this game is that we're favoured by 3, against a team that stretches the field while running against our outside linebackers and backup safeties. I'd call them batshit insane, but the bookies do have serious cash riding on their spreads.

TheMile, we held them to 10 points (save that 1-yard TD "drive") and under 200 yards total offense at their place under the most fan-hostile conditions we've faced in years. I would think you could hold them to under 20 at your place. The question now is can Henne, Hart, and company put up 20+ points on their defense...I think they can if Henne can read zone coverage well (something that Troy Smith couldn't).

My worry is primarily that they seem to have a offense that works well against our defense's weaknesses. I'm rather pleased with our defense's performance this season after the end of the last one, but we still have a problem with pursuit when teams run wide of the line. Things will even be worse with both Barringer and Engelmon injured, and they have a ton of speed in Robinson, Williams, etc. that they can use to exploit that.

They can, but who knows which Henne and Carr will show up? 2004/MSU Henne or ND/Wisconsin/Minnesota Henne? Will Carr and Malone actually have us throw downfield ala MSU or stick with the Run-run-pass-punt offense of the Minnesota game?

Eh, I'd be more confident, but we're 3-3, and I don't think we should be favoured against a team running as hot as Penn State. I'd reverse the spread, maybe giving us 3.5-6.5.

I think that's a lot closer of a bet. I'd probably still take PSU, if Michigan has 6 points.

But then again, I lost about 1000 vcash betting on MSU to beat Michigan, and I forget how much (300 or so, I think) betting on Ohio State to beat the spread against Penn State.
