vBet: Will the Colts Go Undefeated

I dont know , nor do I have a gut feeling about this either way. One thing of which I am convinced, if the Colts fall in the regular season it will be to an unlikely team - I nominate the Cardinals.

Still have Jax, Seatle, and San Diego...no way do they go undefeated.

I don't know if they will, either, but I feel that everyone is forgetting how good they are this year. If they stop LT and Shaun Alexander, they will win those games. Their rushing D has been pretty good, so it's possible. Also, Leftwich probably won't be at full health with his ankle. It will be a tough road against some good teams along the way, but the Colts are just as good as any of them.

Amen! Sitting players for entire games at the end of the season is one of the worst things a coach can do in my opinion. Sure, cut their playing time. Sure, pull Manning midway through the third quarter and split time between James and Rhodes, but you shouldn't sit players for weeks. The Eagles tried that last year and look how inefficient McNabb and the rest of the offense looked in the last 8 minutes of the Super Bowl.
hmm? How does resting a month beforehand (and playing two games in between) affect their superbowl performance? the eagles had good offense in the playoffs, and any struggles were due to the lack of TO, not b/c they sat out during the last few games.

Besides the Eagles, the NFC was a joke last year. The Eagles were going to roll to the Super Bowl regardless because no team was going to score much on their defense. (They held the Vikings to 14 and the Falcons to 10.)

Their offense looked tired and confused in the final 8 minutes of the Super Bowl and I believe a big reason was because of the attitude on the team. I believe part of it can be attributed to the fact that Reid did not establish a winner's attitude at the end of last season by not even trying to win the final two games of the regular season. Plus, the playoffs in the NFL are all about momentum. The Eagles killed theirs in the last two weeks of the season. Again, the only reason they were in the Super Bowl is because the rest of the NFC was so pathetic last year.

I don't think they go undefeated and the reason is that Dungy will rest his key players if they clinch home field and the division early, which is very likely. It will be a shame if that happens and they lose because they rested their key players.

As a coach, you'd be silly to risk injury in games that are not needed to clinch home field. If Dungy played them and one the three headed monster got hurt, he'd never hear the end of it. Especially if it cost him the Lombardi Trophy.

Rest the key starters after you clinch. The last few teams they face are all jockeying for position and need those wins. They will be playing hard.

I say Manning, Harrison, James, and Freeney don't see the bench unless it's A.) a blowout, or B.) they've lost. Going undefeated is one of those "unreachable" and transcendant marks in their sport - much like Roger Maris,
Babe Ruth, and Henry Aaron's home run records were/are. What they have a chance to do is important, and I think they'll make an honest effort to achieve it.
