vBet: BCS National Championship: Ohio State v. LSU (-5.5)

Would anyone mind explaining why the lines change as time goes on?

Also, isn't it almost commonplace to give the home team 3 points? If so, does this mean that Vegas considers the game almost even?
I believe the spread is set up so that 50% of the bets should go to each side. In the first few weeks with this line up, more people must have been picking Ohio State to win, so they lowered it to even it out.

OSU's going to surprise everyone and blow out LSU. They'll hold LSU to a field goal until the last two minutes. I predict a final score of 41-17.

MVillani1985 isn't even an Ohio State fan. He's a Penn State fan who is trying way too hard to ingratiate himself to the board at large. Expressing a belief that Ohio State will blow-out a team that is inarguably better than any we have played thus far is just embarrassing.

In the NFL home team is +3, in college I believe to be around +5.5. A betting line does not change just because a ton of money comes in to action. A bookie will also change odds due to who is betting on the line. I have posted a link from the NY Times discussing how sportsbooks in Vegas handle betting lines.

Actually, I'm a Penn State fan who mostly supports Big Ten teams in bowl games. And I'm basing my guess on Ohio State's playing style this year, which reminds me a lot of the Penn State team of 2005 (which finished #3 in the nation at the end of the season). Your playing style this year is worlds different from last year, and a big improvement, too. You blew out Penn State and Michigan this year in contrast to last year's close games.

I'm also basing this on the fact that LSU was starting to unravel at the end of the regular season. I know that maybe on paper, LSU looks better than Ohio State, but remember that Wisconsin looked better on paper than Penn State, and we know how that game turned out.

I'll admit it, you should probably take my predictions with a grain of salt, because I'm usually wrong with my score predictions, but the prediction is part of the fun of it all. But I think as long as you can keep the momentum throughout the game that you kept when you played Penn State and you bring a healthy Beanie Wells into the game, the National Championship is yours.

Ohio State vs. LSU BCS Championship Game Still The Biggest Bet

Ohio State vs. LSU BCS Championship Game Still The Biggest Bet

12/24/2007

Take away Monday night's NFL matchup between San Diego and Denver, which will have important connotations for the Chargers, and we have the biggest bet of the day Monday and most days where there is not a lot of NFL action taking place: That's Ohio State vs. LSU and the BCS Championship game where most of the action is on LSU to win as the -4 favorite.

Most books opened this one at LSU -4 1/2 and the majority of Bookmaker.com customers were betting on LSU to cover.

For Ohio State to win outright, a $100 bet on the money line would pay out $155 at Bookmaker.com.

Ohio State will be playing in its third national championship game in the last six seasons when it takes on LSU on Jan. 7 in New Orleans.

Despite a glorious tradition -- 118 seasons, 798 wins, seven Heisman Trophy winners and a building full of trophies -- the Buckeyes have fallen short of doing even better over the years because they have come up empty-handed in bowl games.

The Buckeyes have appeared in 38 bowl games, tying them for ninth with (ironically) LSU and rival Michigan among the top programs in the country (Alabama leads with 55). In those games, the Buckeyes have an 18-20 record. To put that success rate in perspective, Mississippi (19) has more bowl wins than Ohio State.

Hmmm....this made me curious, so I looked up LSU's bowl record. 19-18-1. Lol, funny how there's no mention that we're tied w/ Mississippi in bowl victories. Damn journalists.
