Vasher's 108 Yard Return

Just saw it on ESPN Halftime show, looks like the 49's were trying like a 45-50 yard field goal in winds that looked like 35-40+ MPH winds plus(I mean the goal posts were swaying back and forth like 5 feet each way. The ball started going way left and then turned in to the right. It was short and a Bears player caught it 8 yards deep in the endzone. He ended up taking it back 108 yards, there going to talk about it on ESPN right now.

It was the longest play in NFL history 108 yards.

I never knew you could return a missed field goal.

Canton calls for Vasher’s jersey

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - There will be no induction ceremony for Nate Vasher — at least for a number of years — but the Bears’ cornerback will be featured in the Pro Football Hall of Fame just the same.
His 108-yard missed field goal return in Sunday’s 17-9 win over the San Francisco 49ers was the longest play in NFL history and earned him a place in the Canton shrine.
“The Hall of Fame called today and would like to have his jersey and a football from it,” Bears Coach Lovie Smith said Monday. “So he’s going to get quite a bit from it.
“He’s just a good football player and that was a great run aided by, well, we had a lot of great blocks on that. Most of our defensive players got a good block on it: Brandon McGowan, Brian Urlacher, Alex Brown.”
Vasher was dubbed “The Interceptor” by Smith last year for intercepting a team-high five passes as a rookie.
Now it’s not out of the question that Vasher could become “The Returner,” especially with punt returner Bobby Wade struggling to hold onto the ball against the 49ers. Smith admitted he’s tempted to get Vasher involved more returning either kicks or punts after watching the spectacular spin move, cut and return up the opposite sideline on the TD return that changed the game’s momentum on the final play of the first half. Vasher had a 71-yard interception return for a TD against San Francisco last year. He has averaged 23.1 yards per his nine career NFL interception returns.

ok i could almost swear the Chris Mcallisters fg return on monday night like 3 years ago was 108 yards....i am almost certain.

i aslo remember aaron glenn returning a fg 103 yards in 98.

It was on a Monday night in 2002, 107 yards for McAlister's FG return. Ed Reed had a 106-yard interception return more recently. Those are the 3 longest plays in NFL history.

Wasn't that McAllister paly against the Broncos? Ray Lewis freaking decleated some poor bastard on that return... best part of the play.

For some reason, it took me forever to see this clip from Sunday, that's what's wrong with these sports channels now. Give me some damn highlights and quit blindly predicting where TO is going to end up.

anyway, its great to see Vasher doing well in the pros. He was a great player at Texas, in high school he was first team all-state on offense and defense (4A not 5A, but still impressive), and he was a stud in college.
