Saturday at halftime of the Ohio State vs. Tulsa game at Ohio Stadium, the Scarlet and Gray faithful will get their first look at the newest members of The Ohio State Athletic Hall of Fame.

Created in 1977, the Ohio State Athletic Hall of Fame has honored 294 male and 116 female student-athletes (Men have been inducted since the inception and Women started being inducted in 1993). The Hall of Fame was created by former OSU AD Ed Weaver with the help of Varsity “O” president Ralph Waldo “To pay tribute and extend recognition to those individuals who through the years have contributed to the honor and fame of The Ohio State University in the field of athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate, in their daily lives, the values learned in intercollegiate athletics”

There are a few eligibility requirements also. The players can not be inducted until at least 5 years after their class has graduated and they must have earned at least one Varsity “O” Letter. For coaches, they must have served OSU for at least 15 years.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class includes 8 new members. The class includes the very first Hall of Fame Athlete from the outstand OSU men’s pistol inductee. He will be joined by the 6th men’s tennis player, the 21st diver, the 24th track & field athlete, the 13th women’s basketball athlete, the 38th men’s basketball athlete, the 6th softball player, and the 22nd baseball player.

The former Buckeyes to be honored are Justin Kronauge (men’s tennis), John Machado (baseball), Jantel Lavender (women’s basketball), Randall Larson (diving), Sam Marder (softball), Dan Taylor (men’s track and field), Evan Turner (men’s basketball) and Paul Zelenak (pistol). The official induction was held last night (September 9th) at a dinner, and meet the public Saturday during halftime of the football game.
