Listen Brah, I don't mean to point out the obvious - but I think I have to.

You're just out of school and you want to go some place fun with friends. A place that can offer you a great deal, where there are TONS of things to do and the hotels/resorts are willing to shape what they can offer around what you're looking for. You're equally interested in night time activities as day time activities and good food seems to be important.

There's this little place in the desert of Nevada that can satisfy all of those. Not sure if you've heard of it. It's called

LAS VEGAS

In all seriousness, Vegas is getting CRUSHED right now because of the recession. I'm getting pamphlett's every three weeks about deals in gambling, resort stay, food and show discounts, golf discounts, helicopter rides over the grand canyon...you name it.

It literally is the perfect time to call up, tell them what you want to do, and say - Make me a deal. Then call every other hotel and ask them the same thing.

Great bargin time in Vegas. Go for it.

You could go to Reno instead, which is not nearly as cool but which is near enough to Tahoe that you could spend some time there, too, which would satisfy your skiing urges.

Here is the deal...I am looking into taking a vacation at some point in the next few months but aren't really sure where to go...Here is the criteria I am looking for...

I am just out of college and have a decent job but nothing over the top

I am not looking for basic ideas like Hilton Head...instead I would prefer a specific hotel there or a specific island

Going to Boston to tour the Sam Adams brewery or down to Louisville for the derby are possible options

As always greenies for good destinations or stories...

So what did you end up deciding on?

Anyone ever been to St. Lucia? What about Barbados? I am looking at going there for my honeymoon. Spending 5 days in each.

I spent a week in Barbados a few years ago. It's big enough to do a couple of tourist things - see the town, tour some caves, etc. There are also some very good beaches. The Eastern edge has been battered by winds, since there's nothing that stops the strong winds that come across all the way from Africa. There's no language issue since it was a British colony. I liked it better than most islands I've been to.

I've been to several Caribbean islands, and St. Lucia is near the top of my list for islands that I haven't visited.

Two good choices. I did a week in St. Martin followed by a week in Barbados in order to have a little variation.
