Zach Rice (OL North Carolina, transfer to ???)

Yeah, didn't see that one either. Yet, being close to home has its perks, probably family coming to games more. Maybe should have offered him a NIL with Netjet? Semi-seriously though, if the young man develops into a 'talent', then the NFL will find him, wherever he matriculates. That's kinda what they do. Not familiar with the OL coach at Va, but would hope (for his sake) that he gets the technique/weight training he coulda/shoulda received at tOSU. Good luck young man, but Go Bucks!

It sounds like you’re talking about UNC like it’s not a D1 school in a P5 that has put numerous guys in the NFL and even had a QB taken in the top 2 draft picks. I’m sure Mack Brown can get this kid ready for the NFL as he’s put a few guys in the league. Rice was never a realistic OSU option for quite some time. Best of luck to him

There's a pretty drastic difference between UNC and tOSU.

Sure is. But NFL could care less about that if you're good enough to make the league

Well, not always. They still need a great support system top to bottom with very few exceptions. Donovan Peoples-Jones isn't dropping to the 6th round if he gets coached by Hartline for example. And Mack Brown didn't exactly maximize the talent he had at Texas either. Maybe Zach is that type of talent where it won't matter too much, but we've seen so many instances where it has that I think calibuck's sentiment is justified.

Understandable. And both of us can bring up points supporting our own arguments, like you could use that if Marvin Jones went to OSU instead of Free Shoes, he would probably have a better CFB career. DPJ is also a good example. But Mitch Trubisky went #2, and put 5 in the NFL last year. Rashod Bateman went in the 1st round from Minny instead of going to an SEC school. If you're good, the NFL will find you, support system from a school can definitely as can coaching. And Mack also put a ton of guys in the NFL. He didn't maximize his talent on the field at Texas, but still sent a lot of players to the pros.

Rice arrived at North Carolina with much fan fare in the class of 2022, but plans to leave Wednesday after playing in six games this season between offense and special teams.

The 6-foot-5, 305-pounder played 12 games in 2023, mostly on special teams, and played in a pair of games in 2022. During that time period he was charged with speeding and underage drinking and driving.

Rivals.com had Rice ranked No. 24 overall, No. 1 in Virginia and No. 2 at tackle in the class of 2022 coming out of Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy. He played in the Under Armour All-American Bowl and was invited to the Polynesian Bowl. Rice didn’t allow a sack in his final two years and had 219 pancake block en route to being a two-time all-state selection.

Rice picked North Carolina over Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
