The Fox Sports South announcers for this game are dreadful...which I assume is why they're working for FSsouth lol

Tried defending that helmet to helmet late hit on the USC safety by saying "that's a really tough call because he's trying to send a message to a bigger guy" - no it's not a tough call. The pass was incomplete and about 4-5 steps later the safety lowers his head, stares at the ground, and drivers the top of his head into the receivers chin when the play is basically over.

So USC keeping UVA's drive alive with the 15 yarder.

I was actually suprised the call did not go against UVA for illegally hitting an airborne defender in the head with his throat.

UVa gets a garbage time TD to make it a 17-14 final score.

USC is definitely struggling with some lousy teams. That's good news for Minnesota since they are really fucking lousy. Maybe they can be lousy enough to win next week.

Is it a garbage time td, if USC is still playing their starters and trying to keep UVA from scoring?

If there are only :04 left in a two-possession game, that's garbage time. The opposing HC being an insolent jackass is not a mitigating factor in that case.

UVa gets screwed again after executing a great fake punt with a questionable illegal block call.

Indeed. I would have expected ACC officials and a Pac-10 replay crew, but apparently they were Pac-10 refs on the field that blew the rule on the fake punt.

They'll miss a future game as a penalty. Here's the crew from a USC box score:

Officials: Referee: Brian O'Cain; Umpire: Matt Jordan; Linesman: Jeff Hansen;
Line judge: Manuel Alonzo; Back judge: Johnny Jenkins; Field judge: Kevin Kieser;
Side judge: Brad Glenn

Pac-10 penalizes officials of Virginia-USC game

The Pac-10 officials involved in a controversial call during Saturday's contest between Virginia and Southern California have been reprimanded and will be removed from a future game assignment, the conference announced Monday.

Virginia ran a fake punt early in the second quarter Saturday night. Punter Jimmy Howell completed a pass to tight end Colter Phillips, who advanced to the USC 24 yard-line for what would have been a 36-yard gain. The play was nullified, though, after offensive guard Isaac Cain was whistled for an illegal block below the waist.

Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott announced in a press release that the officials responsible for the call had been disciplined for failure to apply the playing rules correctly. Blocking below the waist anywhere on the field by either team is illegal if the offense is lined up in a scrimmage kick formation, unless a kick is not made, according to the release.

"The officials recognized the mistake after the fact and apologized to the Virginia coaching staff," Scott said. "We know mistakes are made in games, but we will not tolerate our officials misinterpreting the rules. We believe the reprimand and removal from a future assignment are appropriate."

Cont'd ...
