USC whining about losing players....

Fuck the USC coaching staff. What a selfish statement that guy made. I'm sure in a week or so he'll state that his comments were taken out of context.

When you recruit all world high school players there is a great risk of them leaving before they drain their eligibility. They already have that mindset.

Can't wait to see the falloff at USC next year. :wink2:

wow...that is classy of the coaching staff. of course you can't throw all the eggs in one basket, but what an idiot to complain like that ESPECIALLY considering Matua's situation. i already disliked the Trojans...this, not helping. SO glad they lost as well.

The coach was criticizing the agents. Nowhere did he criticize Matua. Did you know that the agent convinced Matua to enter the draft without even getting the free evaluation that the NFL provides to any eligible player? Yeah, that sounds like someone acting in Matua's best interests.

I sympathize with the coaches predicament, and honestly feel he was voicing true indignation about what Matua's agent told him concerning draft prospects.

Still, there is the fact that Matua's mother is batttling breast cancer. I get the impression from the following that 2nd, 3rd or 4th round Matua wanted to help in any manner he could - and also felt the time was now not later.

"I've got a whole bunch of brothers and sisters," Matua said. "My mother is sick and it's time for me to really kind of step up to the plate and really try to support those people now. "A lot of people say, 'It's only a year. You could wait a year.' But my family doesn't have a year. My mother might not have a year. We're day to day."

That is the only quote that matters. Everything else should be placed in that context.

Behaving like a buffoon in front of the media doesn't exactly serve Matua's interests either.

I think Matua would have gone either way. His situation certainly would cause a guy to consider it. But I think the coach is not out of line to refer to the agents as garbage. Don't know anything about these particular agents, but I think a lot of those guys are nothing more than mafia wannabes.

Well then lets place this thread in the context of that quote. Here's my count:

# of "Good Luck Fred" or "I wish Fred well"-type comments: 0
# of "I'm glad SC lost" or "SC coach sucks"-type comments: 6

It's obvious that this thread is motivated by a concern for Fred and not at just an oppotunity to bash SC :roll1:

Methomps... in all fairness, we are all probably biased and against Pete Caroll. The reason for the hatred in this thread towards him is probably because he told Bush that he should stay, and then, completely contradicted himself saying that Vince Young should go.

With that being said, good luck to Matua, hope he gets what he wants and his family ends up being ok.

And with two individuals whose comments SHOULD be directed towards wishing him well ie his coach and a USC fan that first count is still zero.

It's obvious that this thread is motivated by a concern for Fred and not at just an oppotunity to bash SC :roll1:

Sarcasm aside you're right it was started as nothing more than as a means to get a dig at USC; unfortunately Coach Ruel provided them with the ammunition to do so.

BTW did anyone notice that they re-edited the story? Ruel's comments are now near the end of the article rather than near the beginning. Interesting in how much the tone of the story changes with that simple edit. (And for the record it's probably a good editorial change as the original copy came across very harsh by placing too much focus on the coaches comments.)
