Why is everyone saying McCoy was a done deal to OSU before last nite? What made him change his mind in the last 24 hours?

I couldn't agree more. Anyone else think it's merely coincidence that Tennessee's in on almost every recruit (and their brother!) the year after they diverted the NCAA from investigating their program to instead investigating Alabama (who were really the only SEC program buying recruits, right?!?)? For a few years there wasn't much noise from Fat Phil, either in games (esp. bowl games) or recruiting, but now he's back, with a bang. Very suspicious.MililaniBuckeye said:Four words:

As the pot calls the kettle black, at this point. Remember which program's under heat for paying football player(s) illegally right now. Not saying it's Tress's fault but I also happen to know that none of us have proof of fat Phil's involvment in paying these athletes right now. I'd also venture a guess to say taht we didn't look into the allegations at UTenn like we look into what's going on over here in Buckeye land. IIRC, I had seen more than one Vol posting that they went through a VERY similar situation with ESPN that we're going through.MililaniBuckeye said:Four words:

Can't hang with SC? Are you serious? Take a look at who has come to OSU over the Tressel years, who's verballed this year and say that again. You may think SC wins the battle, but it isn't by much, if at all. Would you give back Devon Lyons to get Fred Davis? Do you think Dwayne Jarrett is better than TGII? SC gets studs, no question, but to say OSU isn't "Hanging" with them is too much.ysubuck said:As far as recruiting, OSU can't hang with USC right now. Period.
The only thing that we can hope for is that he takes a long look at the depth chart and also takes a look at Pete's history.
When USC was still in it for Maurice Wells, Pete told Maurice that if he committed that he would be the ONLY back that USC took in this class. Now Maurice and Jason are two completely different backs and the fact that USC was recruiting Wells first tells me that that's the direction that they want to keep going (Reggie Bush type backs).
It almost seems to me that USC has the luxury right now of recruiting kids simply to keep them from going to other schools (just like back in the day). They are so loaded at every position that they can afford to do this from time to time. I understand that this is next to impossible with the number of scholarships available, but Gwaltney just doesn't fit USC's offensive mindset (unless he wants to play fullback, and I doubt that he wants to do that). Who knows?
We cooled on Wells a long time ago, so it isn't like Gwaltney is our backup plan now that we lost Wells. Pete called JG an hour after the Orange bowl. I think that shows how interested he is in landing this kid. Lendale White is our leading rusher, so we definitely have a fit for those big backs.ysubuck said:When USC was still in it for Maurice Wells, Pete told Maurice that if he committed that he would be the ONLY back that USC took in this class. My experience has been that if he gives some info on a USC recruit, he is pretty dead on...BGriffBuckeye said:I am not real familiar with wstripes... he is to USC what HH is to us?
Did USC cool on Marlon Lucky before he committed to Nebraska? If that sounds like I am being a smartass I don't mean it to be...I am just curious as to who their, forgive me for saying, #1 target at RB has been...methomps said:We cooled on Wells a long time ago, so it isn't like Gwaltney is our backup plan now that we lost Wells.
