USC +8.5 at Notre Dame (ov/un 57.5) Sat 7:30 ET, NBC

is the lipstick off the pig yet in south bend?

kelly bought a ton of goodwill by beating a downtrodden miami team in a bowl game last year. but this was supposed to be their year. they have about 10 senior starters, with teo likely going to the draft as well. They are on pace to drop 5 games again this season.

i wonder how much latitude kelly would get if declan sullivan happened this coming offseason rather than last year.

Hard to say really. I think there's probably a sense of desperation to make it work with him. He was a pretty big/hot name when they nabbed him, and he's been very successful everywhere else he'd been as a HC. If he fails, that may be the final nail in the ND football program's coffin as it pertains to hopes of returning to the "big time". Shitcan this guy and you've pretty much cemented yourself as the graveyard of coaches. Can't imagine anybody else of any importance wanting that job anymore.

Don't know about facilities , but Notre Dame has a strong fan base, a huge endowment fund, rich alums, tradition and a shit pot full of money. I don't think they'd have much trouble finding interested candidates, but they might not get the coach they want.

Why would Greg Schiano want to stay at Rutgers over Michigan? Maybe Tony Soprano told him he'd end up in the same part of Michigan as Jimmy Hoffa. Or maybe he was just as happy with the problems he faced at Rutgers without taking on the problems and expectations he'd face in Ann Arbor. The same could be true in South Bendover. As we used to say in the sixties, "Different strokes for different folks."
