One thing I have noticed is that Carroll is not known for his halftime adjustments. I would guess his halftime speech would go something like this:

"Whoa, dudes! We need to get righteous out there in the second half and score at least 8 more points than they do..."

I cannot recall any games in the Carroll era where they adopt a different strategy in the second half, either offensively or defensively. They either blow the other team out in the first half, they get down big and can't come back, or they are locked into a struggle until the end of the game. I can't remember them coming back from at least 2 scores down at the half to win.

And I just heard Herbie say that Pete built a reputation on his adjustments, but I disagree. I think it has more to do with the caliber of USC's players wearing down the opponents.
