Anybody else watching this?
I'm encouraged by the play of the back line - they seem to have better size and seem to be better at marking.
The play up front has been uninspired so far. The US seems to lack the ambition to make runs, and (as usual) they only seem willing to move the ball up the sides instead of attacking the interior of the defense to keep them honest.
It was interesting to hear one of Bruce Arena's comments in the first half - he basically said that if...
GOOOOOOOAL!!!!!
Thank God for the corner kick. Conrad is having a hell of a match.
Anyway... Arena basically said that if the players on the outside started making more crosses, we'd start seeing more runs on goal. Wynalda pretty much had to correct him, saying that more crosses would come if players started making more runs. I think Arena's comment typified the style of play we saw in the World Cup, and I'm glad he's not the manager anymore.
That goal by the US has (as goals tend to do) changed the complexion of the game. The US is playing a little more crisp when they have the ball.
Finally, as I write this, the back line has been good, but they're gassed. With a 1-0 lead, it's time to get some fresh legs back there.
