This should be the first game I don't put money on the Nats. Spain goes for the world record 36 match unbeaten streak, including 16 wins in a row tomorrow. Dominating the world right now. Clearly the #1 team.

But I won't. It's all about the red, white & blue!

Shock the world!

keep it close.

If the USA play in the midfield like they did last game, this won't be as lopsided as you guys think. I would not be surprised if it is close.

Bloemfontein, by the way, has the feel of Columbus. Inland. Provincial. Family-type place. Not as high as Johannesburg, but it is at altitude.

I didn't even realize we made it out of the group. I assumed after going 0-2 we were done. What was the tiebreaker that got us into the semis?

Same record as Italy (and Egypt), even in goal margin with Italy, advanced by having more goals for than they did.

Brazil won all 3 games, and the other teams beat each other, so three teams were 1-2.

It first goes to goal differential. IIRC, USA and Italy were both -2 and Egypt was -3. Then it goes to total goals scored, and USA had more goals than Italy. A bunch of ESPN idiots were complaining about the tiebreaker, but it's the same one the World Cup uses for Group play.

Actually - the tiebreaker goes to the country with the most embarassing public figure. Essentially, the country with the person who disgusts the most people around the planet.

The United States won because Perez Hilton is an American.

I think it will be closer than some think and would not be surprised if US scores first. They lacked that fire and discipline in the first two games that suddenly showed up against Egypt. I think they feed off of that and come out looking really good, just depends if they can keep it up all 90 minutes.

It's as if the last game a the light came on:

"Soo...wat just a Star-Spangled second...if we enthusiastically play soccer like we're having fun...and not like robots...we're actually a better team?

Whodathunkit?

I just think that Spains forwards are going to tear our D apart. Torres and Villa are great strikers. I say either 3-1 Spain or 2-1 Spain.

I think Torres is a little overrated, but I'll be pleasantly surprised in the USA scores.

I think the midfield will be the difference. Spain will play it tight with a lot of pressure on the ball, and the first touches by USA players as they receive the ball will have to be of high quality in order to maintain possession.
