The Buckeyes are in strange waters regarding their postseason fate.

After a second straight 62-3 victory, this time over Maryland, Urban Meyer met with the assembled media on Monday morning. Despite all of the speculation swirling around the team’s postseason scenarios, the coach confirmed that the team’s focus was on Michigan State.

After looking at the Maryland game film, Meyer praised the team’s wide-receivers for being unselfish and willing to do the little things, in terms of blocking and special teams, to help the team win. He said that starts with recruiting, and Zach Smith does a great job coaching them with that mindset.

The coach also says that Tyquan Lewis is one of the team’s best leaders, something he didn’t expect when recruiting him.

Maryland champions of the game

Defensive Line: Jayln Holmes, Dre’mont Jones, Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis
Linebackers: Jerome Baker, Craig Feda, Chris Worley
Secondary: Gareon Conley, Marshon Lattimore, Malik Hooker
Defensive Player of the Game: Raekwon McMillan

Receivers: Zone-6
Tight End: Marcus Baugh
Offensive Line: All five starters
Offensive Co-Players of the Game: Curtis Samuel, Zone-6, J.T. Barrett

Looking to this Saturday’s game, despite the injuries and different rotations that the Michigan State Spartans have used this year, Meyer said that they are very much a systematic team, so they require the normal grinding. He said that despite the obstacles they’ve had this season, MSU has a ton of great players. He said the team’s defense looks the same to him on film as it always does.

Meyer said that playing the “revenge card,” after a loss to MSU kept the team out of the playoffs in 2015, depends on the makeup of each team and player. He will assess that later this week for the current team.

Regarding the team’s playoff future, Meyer said that he is currently debating how to discuss the playoff scenarios with his team. He hasn’t addressed it yet, like he has in years past, but the team’s focus is on Michigan State.

When asked about doing something similar, Meyer was unaware that former NFL running back Trent Richardson was used in padded practices for Alabama to prepare for LSU, but jokingly, got out his phone to start making calls for this week’s practices.

Ohio State travels to East Lansing on Saturday to seek a measure of revenge against the Michigan State Spartans. The game will kick off at 12 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN.
