We had them living in the pond bank outside our Condo in Indy. That was five or more years ago. We would encounter them when we were out walking the dog. They never bothered us. It was fun to watch them play in the pond. Their howling at night was pretty eerie.

From the City of Dublin, Ohio website:

Basic Steps to Deter Coyotes in Your Back Yard

Always find it strange that there are coyotes anywhere except way out west. I think of them being in the desert, or the Rocky Mountains, not roaming Muirfield Village golf course. (Bad news for your pets if you let them wander outside alone. Garrison Keillor did a story once about his pup being lured away from home and destroyed by coyotes.)

Most of the coyotes out here blew themselves up or crashed into or fell off of cliffs:

Yeah. I've seen a few in the north clintonville metro area. Usually in the high Street/indianola/Huntley csx tracks. A few closer to my house. Like a block away. Last one I saw had a severe limp when he ran off. I'm unprepared to confirm or deny the reason for that.

Been about 3 years though. We have a bunch of foxes now. And since my dog is a fox terrier, I tend not to worry. The final battle between good and evil will play itself out I guess. The dog has a home field advantage anyway.

If the foxes disappear I'll start worrying again.

I walked up on one at about 9 at night near a Japanese Buddhist temple near my house. At first, I thought it was somebody's dog that got loose and was ready to approach it. When I realized what it was, I just made myself "big" and casually slid to the left and let it pass me by. Anyway, they say there are about 4K living in Chicago, probably most in Lincoln Park or along the river branches. Here's a clip from tonight. As an added bonus, the interviewed coyote expert who works with the city is an Ohio State professor.

coyotes have been an issue here for decades, the issue i am waiting for as now we are getting more and more coyote/wolf hybrids. If we end up with wolf sized coyotes that will be problematic.
That probably won't happen but this is interesting: the resurgence of coyotes in the east is from breeding with dogs and wolves.

Here in the west they're shot, trapped and poisoned (and thrive nonetheless). Sometimes it's hard to root for the humans.

The county I grew up in (and some others around but i cant speak for most of the state) has had a bounty on coyote hides for about 20 years but it hasnt slowed them down, damn things are clever and breed like rabbits. not to mention lots of them are getting into areas where its illegal to fire guns or hunt.

PS; I stopped following IFLS a couple years ago when she got too full of herself, started spouting opinions as scientific fact.
