That's two D's, for a double dose of pimpin'.
Sorry, I had Idiocracy on in the background while we did the server work tonight.
On Sunday (8/9) we upgraded the operating system and every piece of related software that works behind the scenes to drive the site. We also added, finally, the properly configured ElasticSearch engine and its dependencies. It is up and running, but not yet tied to the site.
This clears the path for me to upgrade the forum, our add-ons, the front page (which will finally be worth a damn), and to add some new features. Xenforo 1.5 (we're on 1.3.x now) has a lot of new features. Nothing that should confuse or frighten any unfrozen caveman lawyers -- just good stuff all around both front and back end.
I *expect* 1.5 to go gold Tuesday. It's currently in Release Candidate 1, which means it's out of beta and they're giving it a week to make sure there are no more substantial bugs. It could go to RC2 Tuesday instead, which would push my timeline back a week. I'll know more Tuesday, but we have another few hours of downtime coming -- but all for a good cause.
To our donors -- thank you. The search engine is WAY overdue, but it took an extraordinary amount of work. We contracted with multiple people to get it done in years prior, and in each case they were scared away by the "complexity" of our operating system. But we have The Wolf, and The Wolf is good. These upgrades and the forthcoming new software licenses were made possible by you.
So there we have it. Done for tonight. I've checked the site and all seems to be well. If you note anything out of whack (you shouldn't, the logs are clear), please post in this thread.
Oh, and for those of you who are night owls (or in Hawai'i), the error messages for a few minutes around 3-3:30am ET should be gone for good.
Progress! Slow and steady, but forward motion nonetheless.
I'm genuinely excited about what we're going to be able to do with the site going forward.
Night, all.
