(unofficial) Rose Bowl thread - USC vs. Texas (merged)

We are seeing USC being exposed for what they are...the most overhyped, overblown team in the history of sports.

I do have half a mind to E-mail Herby when he returns to 1460 regularly and ask him, and seriously, why do you guys do this? Why ask "is USC the best as between this team that won and this team that won and this team that won" BEFORE SC wins anything? It's been going on HARD since the media declared the 2003 Sooners the "greatest team of all time" well before even the BigXII championship game (which they, of course, lost)

They've won 34 games in a row. I think that is a significantly profound achievement. Even the best heavyweight champs usually lose to a Buster Douglas somewhere along the way in those kinds of streaks.

I'm not saying that it's not a significant accomplishment, it most certainly is, but the love-fest they have recieved from the media has been insane. Not that ESPN is exactly a bastion of journalistic credibility, but they ran a what 20 something part series of 2005 USC vs. the greatest teams in CFB history...and said that they would beat them all. All before even playing one really solid team...yes including ND. They are a VERY good team, but they have holes in their defense, and the offense has shown it can be contained by a defense with speed that can pressure Leinart. This game is by no means over, they can still pull it out...but the media awarded them this trophy months ago. And I still say that '95 Nebraska team would SMOKE this USC team.

actually many media types have called this a close game. ESPN garbage not withstanding, not many intelligent people expected this game to be a blowout.
