Jumpy fans worry UCF, but officials call stadium safe

Some frenzied football fans at the University of Central Florida are calling their new stadium "The Trampoline" -- and treating it like one.

Fans have discovered they can make the upper deck bounce by jumping up and down at once.

Their cue to go crazy: the techno-pop dance beat of Zombie Nation's Kernkraft 400.

"It's fun!" sophomore Michelle Martin says of the bouncing sensation that resulted in the trampoline nickname.

School officials say the stadium is structurally safe and ready for a capacity crowd Saturday when UCF takes on the University of Tulsa for the Conference USA championship.

University officials noticed the movement during the stadium's inaugural game in September against the University of Texas, said William Merck, vice president of administration and finance, who oversees campus construction. He said the motion caught them off guard, but that visual and electronic monitoring since the first game has revealed no damage.

Speaking of UCF- How about that Kevin Smith? He has been ridiculous this year!

Who in their right mind would put Mike Hart ahead of a man who rushed for over 2,000 yards as a Doak Walker finalist?

Somebody who says that it is easier for Smith to get his yards in CUSA than it was for Hart to gain his against top flight opposition.

Smith's totals are very impressive, but consider the opposition's abilities on Defense against the run.

Apparently another Florida miracle...

...metal fatigue doesn't exist.

I now eagerly anticipate the "35 dead, hundreds injured in bleacher collapse" ESPN headline a few years down the road...

I am not normally one to miss sarcasm this blatanly, so forgive me if I did, but that is just a little too morbid to be joking about for my tastes.

I think that's somewhat negated by the talent surrounding him. He's put up the 2nd highest rushing total in NCAA history. Ladanian Tomlinson and Marshall Faulk played in lesser leagues too and even they never had a season as impressive as his. Smith should've been a finalist over Hart.

The mortality rate for the human species is 100%. Eventually some creepy dude with cold hands is going to insert a big plastic screw in your rectum so nothing leaks out onto the pretty satin lining of your casket.

We're all going to die. It sucks. That's life. Deal with it.

That being said I have little pity for those who hasten their own demise by doing stupid things.

Eventually those bleachers are going to fail.

Hopefully whoever is in charge will see the warning signs before it happens. If not, it is going to be a front page news disaster and there will lots of finger pointing and investigations and lawsuits and general passing the buck until scapegoats are found.

None of which changes the fact that: 1. The potential for a problem was known years in advance. ...and... 2. The problem was exacerbated (if not created) by the reckless behavior of the students.

Doubtful. I figure Thump is pro-cremation, what with the fiery explosion and not having to spend eternity sleeping with the gophers.

Sure - once he finished inserting the butt plug screw he'd go for the extra- kerosene stoked explosion/cremation. :banger:
