U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

So now we have the predictable “Pulisic is a pussy” blowback from the Donovans of the world for him skipping the Gold Cup…I don’t know. It sucks he won’t be playing, especially how the team looked the last couple of matches…but it is what it is. He’s the kind of player that is always dinged up, and I’d rather have him preventing total embarrassment in the World Cup next year.

Are we still invited? I think 5 losses in a row nullifies the host country AQ thing.

you see the back and forth between Donovan & Papa Pulisic? whole lotta pots and kettles in this one..

Mark Pulisic asked ChatGPT to explain why Donovan took a sabbatical from the sport in 2012-13. The bot correctly pointed out that Donovan, citing mental and physical burnout, temporarily walked away from the national team and skipped World Cup qualifiers. He was later left off the 2014 World Cup roster.

“Landon Donovan took his sabbatical because he was feeling both physically and mentally exhausted after years of intense competition and the pressure that comes with being a top athlete. He’d ben playing professionally from a young age and had participated in multiple World Cups, so he felt the need to step back and take some time for himself. This break allowed him to rest, travel, and ultimately return to the game with a refreshed mindset.”
“This guy is talking about commitment,” Pulisic’s father’s Instagram caption read. “Look in the mirror + grow a pair and call names out, or are you afraid? Next time you want an interview, you will get rejected again.”

Bottom line is the US doesn't have a golden generation on its hands... it's got a decent generation. The country wont ever really amount to much in futbol as the 4th/5th/6th choice sport (with pay to play) and to an extent the lack of true "Academies" like they have in Europe and elsewhere which are futbol, all day every day, schooling at night...

And NIL won’t make things better as young athletes can get serious money playing football and basketball in college.
