U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Sure, take the point. This was a B- squad, at best - and only lifted from being a “C” team with the likes of Yedlin and Turner. US decided from the jump they were throwing this out to start the tournament.

disappointed a lot of the “new” names showed nothing. That’s my only takeaway. They’ll get out of the group and then we can start judging things when the B+/A guys take the pitch.

For all you strategists, what is the likelihood Burhalter keeps the formation we played with last night? I, for one, loved it.

I felt like we spent a lot of time around or in Mexico's box. Cap should have tallied a hat trick nonetheless we applied plenty of pressure. My gut tells me he goes back to 4-3-3 with his MMA midfield.
I think you got your answer tonight. It probably destroyed him to score 5 goals but lose the possession battle.

This sums it up.

People may want to go look at the 23 man roster available for the group stage. What exact lineup were they expecting to piece together?

This was never going to be the team that just faced Mexico in a cup final.

Gold Cup is always like this to start. Just get out of the group and then get down to business with the new roster + anyone from this group stage bunch actually earns it.
