MIDDLE SCHOOL MARVEL

Though he’ll only be entering his freshman year of high school this fall, Southlake, Texas, Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers was — in my opinion — the best signal caller at Ohio State’s camp on Friday.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Ryan Day no doubt agreed, which is why he extended a scholarship to Ewers that afternoon.

“It means a lot to me because I know college coaches are iffy on offering a player who hasn’t played one snap of high school football, but they believe in me to keep grinding and working on my craft,” Ewers told Eleven Warriors. “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet. Ohio State is usually always competing for a national championship, so to have that offer means a lot and I’m very thankful and blessed.”

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Ewers is, of course, not yet ranked by any major recruiting sites and his only other offers is from North Texas. But he throws with a lot of confidence and continuously hit his receivers in stride all afternoon.

“I think my arm strength and how young I am [stood out],” Ewers said.

After the camp, Ewers spent time with Day and toured the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. He plans to return again in the future, though distance will certainly play a factor in how often.

“Ohio to Texas is a long way, but I’m gonna go up as much as I can to see some games,” Ewers said. “I hope [Day] continues to watch me. Ohio State would be an awesome college to attend.”

Not at all surprised, big TX Hss like to run the pass happy spread and run and gun offenses, so QB numberS will always be quite high. There were 7 players who passed for over 4000yds in TX last year and 15 more players who passed for over 3500yds. By comparison, OH had one player pass for over 4000yds and none over 3000. TX had more players throwing for over 3500yds than even CA as well.

His numbers are great, but should be taken with a grain of salt due to the pass oriented offenses

Ohio State, Corey Dennis checks in on 2022 quarterback

Last week Corey Dennis made his first recruiting stop in Philadelphia to see 2021 Buckeyes commitment Kyle McCord. A few days later, Dennis is already a grizzled veteran when it comes to the daily grind of recruiting, and on Tuesday he made a stop to see a target that could become a major priority for the Buckeyes in the Class of 2022.

The first-year Ohio State quarterbacks coach was in Southlake, Texas at Carroll High School, the home of Quinn Ewers, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound sophomore who was recently named the MaxPreps.com Sophomore of the Year following a season that saw him throw for more than 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns for a nationally-ranked program.

Ewers camped in Columbus prior to his freshman year of high school, and he left that visit to Ohio State to the tune of coaches and media in attendance raving about his future, including yours truly.

For my money, the best quarterback in attendance was 2022 – yes, a player getting ready to enter his freshmen year of high school – prospect Quinn Ewers. He’s going to be a star Southlake Carroll in Texas.

Now an established high school prospect, Ewers has a host of interested programs coming around including the Buckeyes, who offered him following that one-day camp in 2018. It’s a tough time for him to truly gauge his interest in each potential option, though, because he’s actually not allowed to talk to the coaches when they’re at his school.

The Buckeyes will have a lot of competition for Ewers by the time his recruitment is all said and done. But the early relationship, along with the chance to focus no recruiting 2022 quarterbacks already because McCord is committed early in 2021, can only help.

Wiltfong recently mentioned Ewers in an article saying his favorites as of now are Auburn, Texas, and Clemson.,Oklahoma, and Ohio St.(no order). Ewers says noone recruits him harder than Ohio St. but he also loves Lincoln Riley (where have we heard that before?) and his family loves the Longhorns. But his family does have a cabin near Columbus and some family in Ohio, so who knows?

DAY, BUCKEYES TOP CONTENDER FOR FIVE-STAR QB EWERS
Five-star Southlake Carroll (Texas) quarterback Quinn Ewers is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the latest 247Sports recruiting rankings, and the Buckeyes have a great head start in the recruitment of the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder who has drawn comparisons to Trevor Lawrence.

On the 247Sports Football Recruiting Podcast on Wednesday, national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong said Ohio State has already made some tremendous inroads with the young talent in addition to a few other teams.

“No program is recruiting Ewers harder than Ohio State,” Wiltfong said. “Corey Dennis, the new young quarterbacks coach there for the Buckeyes and Ryan Day are the program in the most contact with the Lonestar State gunslinger, who also added that he talks a lot with Chad Morris at Auburn and has maintained a strong relationship with Texas. He also says he talks a lot with Michigan. Oklahoma is certainly in there, and there were a few more.

“Alabama, Georgia, LSU, those programs have offered the 6-foot-3, now 211-pound Ewers, who is approaching 30 offers. I think the next one is going to come from Dabo Swinney and Clemson ... That's an offer that I think he'll strongly consider. There's a few programs I like early in the process for Quinn, who's gonna make a business decision. He's looking for a school that's obviously gonna give him the best chance to be what he thinks he can be.”

Wiltfong says that Ewers' family has some property – either a farmhouse or a barn – near Columbus, “which is a nice little wrinkle if you're Ryan Day and Co. He's been in Columbus. He's seen Dwayne Haskins go in the first round. He's gonna see Justin Fields go in the first round. He's seen an offense that's been in the top 10 annually with Ryan Day. The Buckeyes are firmly in it.”

Oklahoma is the Crystal Ball favorite to land Ewers, but Wiltfong says he doesn't feel as good about that prediction as he did originally.
