Two dropped balls = BCS mess

HUBRIDER

HAS BEEN
Just wondering what would have happened if two dropped footballs would not have occured this past year. Hamby in tOUS game against Texas and Lienhart fumble against ND. We would have had five one lose teams laying claim to the Rose Bowl. My take from a somewhat biased view. ND is out cause they were beaten by a team other than one of the five. USC out if you consider SOS and loss to none qualifier. That leaves just three and if you consider tOSU beats PSU on a common field and Texas does some to OSU, then we can only imagine to uproar. Too bad it didn't because it may have forced playoff consideration.

- gonzo drops an easy third down pass in the 1st quarter
- smith is scramble happy
- pass is deflected, and recovered for a loss... that loss on the previous is significant, since Huston's FG narrowly missed and may have gone in from a closer distance
- zwick plays well, but makes a bad mistake to scramble
- our defense plays great, and then neglects the RB in the flats multiple times on the final drive
- ginn drops screen passes
- we don't tackle ramonce for a safety on the KR

there are a ton of other mistakes in that game. it's a team game.

Hamby's drop just prevented Vince Young from completing 2 incredible fourth quarter comebacks in one season. He proved that yesterday. After watching last night's game, I no longer think of Hamby's drop. It was Texas' year.

If one act is to blame for that game, it's Troy's acceptance of the 500 dollar check. The Fiesta Bowl showed how good he could have been if he didn't have that over his head at the beginning.

I'm hip, woulda coulda shoulda...

It woulda been nice if OSU beat Texas and PSU.
OSU coulda
OSU maybe even shoulda...

OSU didnt.

Ill take 4th place, being the top rated 2 loss team (and even ahead of a 1 loss WVU) having lost those games by a total of 10 points to two of the 3 teams that finished in front of them.

I totally agree.

There was another thread on this exact same subject in response to an article that looked eerily similar to your post. Let's not go there again...

Point well-taken, if oversimplified. Actually, under your scenario, there would have been 7 one-loss BCS teams at the end of the regular season: Ohio State (lost to Penn State), Texas (lost to Ohio State), Southern Cal (lost to Notre Dame), Notre Dame, Penn State, Oregon (lost to Southern Cal), and West Virginia, not to mention Texas Christian. And if Virginia Tech had beaten Florida State, etc. etc. You try to figure out who plays in the championship game....

Look for something similar to happen in the near future - when the schedule expands to 12 games, it will be that much more difficult for a team to run the table, and a scenario with no undefeated, but several one-loss, teams could be a very real possibility. If it happens, then expect a true play-off system shortly thereafter.

John Saunders would really be balling in his corn flakes then, wouldn't he?
