Turner Gill, Kansas Head Coach (Official Thread)

Oz!!! You should of hired him instead of Frank the Tank!

Big shout out to Turner Gill at Buffalo. Before he arrived the Buffalo program was abysmal. ABYSMAL!! He has done a great job there. I'm rooting for you big time against Ball State.

Buffalo got an exciting come from behind victory over Bowling Green Friday night. Down 27-7 in the 4th quarter, they scored a TD, but missed the XP to pull to 27-13. BG had a field goal attempt with 4:30 left in the game but botched the hold. With two timeouts in hand, Buffalo marched down the field in 2 minutes and scored to pull within 7. They recovered the onside kick when nobody from BG bothered to go for the ball and marched down the field again in 2 minutes, not using a timeout on either of those drives, to tie it up. Buffalo got the ball first in OT and scored. BG scored to tie it up. In the 2nd OT, BGSU went for it on 4th and goal from the 2 and failed and Buffalo ran it in from 25 on their first play to end it at 40-34. The offensive execution bu Buffalo in the 4th quarter was incredible. They didn't do much of anything for the first 3 quarters, but really turned it on. They run the hurry-up as well as almost any other team I've seen. Fun team to watch.

It was cold and windy up there and I cannot begin to express how pissed I was that it was going to overtime. Fuckin' BG. :shake:

Ball State plays Western Michigan on Tuesday. If Western wins there's a 3 way tie in the division and I don't know what happens, but if BSU wins they head to the MAC championship.

Either way, I'm rooting for the Buffalo Bulls in the title game.

Cool story on ESPN last week about how they turned down their only bowl invite in program history in 1958 (I think it was) because they wouldn't let black players play in the game in Florida (Buffalo had a couple of starters, as I recall from the article, that were black). Wouldn't it be great if they get a bowl game in the south somewhere...with a black head coach. Justice for the program, and all the players who decided in solidarity not to accept their bid back then.

Very Impressive

What impressed me the most about Turner Gill was the fact that he showed tremendous emotion in regards to his players. He said the MAC championship was the most important moment in his career. When he spoke of the team he had tears in his eyes. Obviously, they mean a great deal to him. Turner Gill was a tremendous athlete at Nebraska and his team was one of my faves when he played. He is a man of tremendous dignity, character, and caring. He is also a pretty good coach and an inspiration to his kids.

He took a team that was never favored in a game for 7 years to a MAC championship. Say no more!

I heard some inside info about Gill to Cuse so take this FWIW

Long story short the guy at Cuse (I believe the AD) consistently made phone calls to Gill late at night or during family time. Gill is said to be a big on family time and after his contact at Cuse consistently crossed the line Gill let them know he was not interested in working with someone who disrespected his family.

Again FWIF

I hate to speculate about things. Turner is a good coach. His wife is white. I'm not sure how this was played in 2009 by the big wigs in Auburn (SEC country).

FAuburn. If Gill can win at Buffalo, he can win anywhere he wants. There's 9-10 teams in the Big Ten who could more than use his services....
