I hate to say this as I think it's kind of a joke/inorganic conference with poorly supported football programs, but there would be advantages to leaving the B1G and joining the ACC. First I'd shoot for an ND style deal sports-wise, but even the deals FSU and Clemson are roped into would be more lucrative if Michigan were in the mix. Regarding academics and the CIC or BTAA, what are we really getting back if the only school ahead of us in terms of R&D spending is Johns Hopkins -- its not like they're rushing to join the CIC...& why is that? We're they're top school on budget-wise and they're not kicking us out. B1G hockey isn't healthy enough yet to dump us -- their winningest program. Recruiting would pick up with games in FL, GA, SC, NC, etc. Also, it's just ####ing easier than the meat-grinder that is the B1G-east and Miami certainly hasn't been hurt in the rankings by the cake-walk schedule they've had. Unless we pick up three or four B12 schools in the next few years, re-balance the divisions in the process and set up some kind of three-way pod system, being in the B1G-east is setting yourself up for failure before the season begins.
I honestly hate the ACC, but I'd love to get a rumor started that Michigan and the ACC have been "talking" just to make Chicago nervous.
