Michigan basketball: Frankie Collins plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

But the timing of Collins’ news is very interesting. It comes just a day after Michigan landed Princeton transfer Jaelin Llewellyn who was one of the best players in the Ivy League this past season. Collins needed to make up his mind quickly, ahead of the May 1 deadline to enter the portal but still remain eligible to play right away next season.

Michigan men's basketball sophomore center Hunter Dickinson, rather than enter his name in the 2022 NBA Draft, elected to return to the Wolverines for the 2022-23 season. Last year, in 32 games, Dickinson averaged 18.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 blocks per contest. Michigan assistants Phil Martelli and Saddi Washington joined The Michigan Insider morning show on Sports Talk 1050 WTKA, discussing Dickinson’s offseason approach. One NBA player that Martelli compared Dickinson to is Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid, when explaining the 7-foot-1 rising junior's ceiling.

Just sayin': ........

Thirty years ago, he would have been a 1st round draft pick with a long NBA career as a back-up center.
Now, he better work on his 3-pt game to have a chance at making a roster.

2022 NBA Draft: Michigan's Moussa Diabate forgoing eligibility, not returning to school, per report

Michigan basketball star Moussa Diabate has decided to stay in the 2022 NBA Draft and will not return to school, Jon Rothstein reports. Wednesday is the deadline for players to make their decision and Diabate's hot play during the NBA's combine circuit was a factor in his decision.

Michigan was ranked inside the top 15 of this week's updated Top 25 And 1 preseason rankings, under the notion that at least Diabate returns next season.

Report Card: Grading the NBA Draft deadline stay-or-go decisions

STAYING IN THE DRAFT: MOUSSA DIABATE, PF, MICHIGAN
11101789.jpg

Report Card Grade: F

In one of the most head-scratching decisions of the off-season, Moussa Diabate decided to stick with the NBA Draft process. Entering the season, sure, Diabate was a five-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class but he wasn't expected to be a one-and-done prospect.

Diabate had several holes in his game entering college that were further exposed at the college level and he needed time to patch those up, particularly in his feel for the game and his ability to stretch the floor. He finished the season averaging nine-points, six-rebounds and attempted just 14 threes and shot 61.9% from the free throw line.

Diabate started the season and exited the withdrawal deadline projected as a second-round pick and is now likely headed to the G League where he will likely make less money and a greater challenge of competing against grown men.

He is still very young with plenty of talent and time for this to work out but when it comes to earning potential and from a developmental standpoint, it seemed to be a no-brainer to stay at least one more year at Michigan, earn equal (if not greater) off his NIL and work his way into a guaranteed contract versus fighting his butt off day-in and day-out in the G League.

Juwan Howard was Lakers preferred coaching candidate, report suggests 'job was his if he wanted it'

Howard will coach his two sons at Michigan next season

The Los Angeles Lakers held one of the most exhaustive head-coaching searches in recent NBA history over the past two months. It took them 47 days and interviews with six known candidates to land on Darvin Ham as their choice, but according to Marc Stein, their preference was a coach who wouldn't even interview with them.

In a recent newsletter, Stein reported that University of Michigan coach Juwan Howard was their preferred choice to replace Frank Vogel, and that Howard had been similarly coveted by the Boston Celtics a year ago when Brad Stevens hired his own replacement. The Lakers wanted Howard so badly that, according to Stein, "the job was his if he wanted it."

Michigan basketball suffers worst loss ever under Juwan Howard, 87-62 vs. Arizona State

Just about everything went right for Michigan basketball in its Legends Classic opener against Pittsburgh on Wednesday, playing its cleanest and most complete game on the young season.

Just about everything went wrong for Michigan in its Legends Classic championship game on Thursday against Arizona State, opening the game ice cold from the field and looking disjointed on both ends of the floor.

The Wolverines started the game 3 of 20 from the floor and 2 of 8 from the free-throwline, trailed by 21 before halftime and never made it close, losing their first game of the season 87-62 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Hunter Dickinson had 14 points and five rebounds and Jett Howard scored 12 to lead No. 21 Michigan (3-1). Desmond Cambridge scored a game-high 20 points, followed by 19 from DJ Horne and 15 from Austin Nunez and 13 from Luther Muhammed to propel the Sun Devils.

The 25-point loss was the biggest margin of defeat for U-M under Juwan Howard.
