Hilarious. Panic move. Over 7 seasons in in the Big 12, Boynton's Okie State teams went 51-75 - and one of those seasons featured eventual #1 pick superstar Cade Cunningham.

Cunningham and a pretty decent college roster around him that year. Only managed to finish 5th in the Big 12 and got knocked out in the round of 64 by a 12 seed. Over on GoBoard the DFBIA is comically trying to justify how this is a good move.

It's really a move that makes no sense. They only gave him a 2 year contact which shows zero confidence. Why not just have him as a interim for a year then find someone else if that's the case? Wonder if there's possibly something brewing behind the scenes that they wanted to have "stability" at the HC spot in case whatever that may possibly be turns into a problem.

I think it's moreso that they wanted to avoid taking a hit in losing players on their roster with no chance to replace them. They obviously don't want Boynton to be their coach long-term, but they're willing to call him their head coach in order to avoid taking a hit in the short-term.
