ttun basketball (Dusty May out.......)

Six Coaching Candidates for Michigan Men’s Basketball Search After Dusty May’s Departure

Mike Boynton, Michigan associate head coach
Josh Schertz, Saint Louis head coach
Billy Donovan, former Chicago Bulls head coach
Nate Oats, Alabama head coach
Mark Byington, Vanderbilt head coach
Ben McCollum, Iowa head coach

Just sayin': scUM needs to do something fast to keep the current team together. The best option is probably to hire Boynton as an interim head coach and worry about a long term solution after this coming season is over. However, when was the last time scUM has done anything smart?

I'm not convinced that Boynton would "hold the roster together". It'll be open season and guys will get paid to play elsewhere.......and for better coaches than this. Especially the mercenaries that were just brought in this offseason, those guys really have zero loyalties and will likely be gone.

That 15 day transfer portal just popped open for these incoming wolverines (among others)

7-2 Moustapha Thiam (Cincy)
6-11 JP Estrella (Tennessee)

I'd be very shocked if Thiam and Estrella stuck around to play for a lame duck who landed into the head coach role because the coach they really came to play for decided to take off for the NBA in late June.

Lots of laughs coming from GoBlow this morning.

Does someone want to tell him that every mercenary who ends up at scUM is a "money chaser" who was hunting for the biggest truck?

May is a piece of shit money-chaser. Only two years at UM? Michigan backed up a dumptruck of cash into May's frontyard a few months ago, and even that wasnt enough. Dallas brought a bigger truck, and that's what May was always hunting for.

Please please please let this be true

If this rumor involves Aday Mara, then Mick Cronin is just the type of coach to report alleged wrongdoing to the NCAA.

From a Bruin's fan site / substack article:

There are a few takeaways from this entire saga. The first, most obvious one, is that something happened while Mara was on Spring Break, and I don’t think it is that crazy to state he was tampered with. The complete 180 that UCLA experienced in their negotiations with Mara points in that direction, as do the almost-immediate rumors that Mara’s intended destination was Michigan. It does not help that Michigan is operating on an entirely different level than almost everyone else when it comes to NIL, recognizing (perhaps correctly) that until federal legislation is passed, there is nothing stopping them from simply buying as much talent as possible with their alumni’s deep pockets.

Just sayin': These guys have no loyalty to scUM, it's all about the money. I'll say (regardless who scUM hires as the new basketball coach); if a contending team offers them significantly more than scUM is giving them, they're gone....

If OSU is even remotely serious about basketball, they need to go poach a player or two.

Seriously

College basketball forward J.P. Estrella holds an On3 NIL Valuation of approximately $1.5M, making him one of the most valuable players in college basketball. While individual NIL contracts are private, his total transfer portal market value was widely reported to be in the $1.5 million to $2.5 million range.

Moustapha Thiam's transfer to the Michigan Wolverines included a lucrative, multi-million-dollar NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) valuation estimated at around $1.8M to $2.0 M. The 7'2" center initially commanded heavy, multi-million-dollar packages when he transferred to Cincinnati before entering the portal again and committing to Michigan

Ohio State Center Starter - Josh Ojianwuna
Other options - Andrija Jelavic, Ivan Njegovan

Just sayin': Yeah, going into the 2026/2027 season, Center is probably Ohio State's weakest position and the one with the least depth. Especially since Josh Ojianwuna is an "unknown" having transferred and coming off a season ending injury at his old school. However, the question is: Is either guy worth $2M in NIL money to Ohio State? Or Will either guy likely upgrade the current Ohio State basketball team to be a true National Championship contender?

Tampering here is just one of those things that's probably too hard to directly concretely prove enough for any real serious action to ever be taken.

scUM pretty obviously tampered with Morez Johnson from Illinois as well, you can see that just using common sense.
