Borges can't afford to wait until year three to start his offense, especially with simultaneously starting a new Quarterback and very young receivers, Let alone if Fitzgerald did something stupid - like leaving early - and added a new running back as well. They also have to replace a number of OL as well. Jump starting The growing pains is the only option especially in September where they're so badly outmatched by Alabama and Notre Dame

There's also the dirty little secret that Denard is Also bad at running the read option offense. He is very weak at reading the option/defense itself, so much so that Rich routinely pre-designated whether or not he was going to handed off which obviously handcuffs the offense's potential.

He has not played well, or even solid against a top defense, other than after falling behind by three scores and they switch to a semi prevent defense. The closest he has come to performing against a good defense was OSU last year, and most here would describe that as an Adequate defense and that was before they lost all of their linebackers and half of their defensive backs. Wake Michigan their defensive rankings were very inflated by that train wreck of offenses that were the Big Ten on average. We saw what happened Ohio State against Toledo or Michigan against Notre Dame Michigan State Virginia Tech a bad Ohio State off, etc.

There is no suitable offense for Denard. However he is so athletic that you have to just roll with him and hope the defense fails to capitalize on his bad decisions.

As much as it pains me to say this - D'nad didn't exactly 'struggle' when Rich Rod was his HC.

His stats in the 2010 season are his best by far. He completed over 62% of his passes (to his own team), threw for 2500+ yards whith 18 TDs and 11 picks.

Something changed in 2011....

Oh yeah...this:

Way to coach up that player, Hoke....

Well, actually, what we're seeing is yet another BP prediction coming true. Just as we said back in late 2007 when they hired dickrod...he'll flame out within three years, then leave his replacement hamstrung for another 2-4 years as he is left with players that do not fit his system.

Take another bow, BP...we had this one nailed from the start.

I just want to reiterate that Hoke and his staff apparently thought (according the Michigan insiders) that if they could hang with Alabama they would have a legitimate shot at a national championship.

Fast forward to today and it is more clear than ever that Hoke is a tool with no clue what it takes to field an elite team. He's a match made in heaven for those delusional arrogant clowns up north.

I just hope they give him plenty of 9-3 seasons to try to get to the next level before making another knee-jerk Rodriguez-esque desperation hire after he breaks the "Lloyd Carr mediocrity" threshold.

Hoke's odds of conquering a pair of skinny jeans are more realistic than a NC anytime soon.

I should have asked this last year, but never thought of it. Is it common for an HC in this day and age to be headset-less the whole game? How does this keep him in the loop even remotely? It just seems very distant, but I realize I'm projecting bias. Just curious if anyone has some insight on why he operates in this fashion.

Well if he was a Pop Warner coach, he'd need the headset off so he could yell to his players about their shoelaces being untied.

Oh....wait

This.

He'd also have to stripe players on their helmets,

and make sure everybody got their 4 plays a half, too.

Damn, 2 for 2...

He's been asked, and his reasoning is he's a defensive coach, so unless something is really going wrong, or he really wants to see a change, he let's Borges do his thing. That's what he said last year

'preciate the answer. Can't say I agree with the reasoning as it gives the impression of someone distant, but to each their own.

I know some guy from Youngstown, Ohio that played at some school in Ohio that is a defensive coach, and he wears a headset on the sideline....
