TSUN 29, Minnesota 6 (Final)

FWIW this was a more important LBJ game than usual because it won't be played the next two years. Would have been bad to lose the Jug and not have a chance to get it back til 2011.

You don't really think that this was a big game, do you? :ohwell:

Minnesota had some high hopes when they started climbing the ratings. The loss to Ohio State was in the rearview mirror. The unexpected loss to Northwestern last week seems to have really gutted them. They were awful today.

He's referring to the Little Brown Jug.

He was just referring to the posession of the jug and having or not having it for two years, not the magnitude of this particular game.
is protecting the jug meaningful to UM fans? Bowls, OSU, ND, MSU, PSU, those will matter. No amount of jugs (wooden or otherwise) will matter much if those don't start going differently.

I see what you're saying. I guess I just read HTM's post differently.

Because he said more important than usual, I didn't percieve it has him saying this is a huge game because it is Minnesota or a big rivalry game for them, but just making a point about the fact they don't play for two years and it would be nice to have the jug.

Like I said....it's half a rivalry. It's more meaningful than, say, Wisconsin, Northwestern, or Purdue.

You hit it exactly.

It's better than not protecting it. It's a trophy. No sense acting like since the season's mainly a lost cause, we may as well give up on stuff like the Jug too. And Penn State is only meaningful because they're good right now. When they're bad, it's just another Big Ten game. At least for me. I wouldn't take any more pleasure out of beating a .500 PSU team than a .500, say, Iowa team.

Minny ranks at the bottom of the rivalry hierarchy but because of the Jug, they at least have a spot.
