Troy Smith and Ted Ginn Jr.

Well Crouch's numbers sucked as far as passing so it depends. If he leads OSU to the NC then he won't need to put up out of this world stats but if OSU only goes 8-4 or so then he would probably need 3,000 yards and 800 yards rushing and probably 30 total touchdowns. It mostly depends on what the other candidates do. If he has heroic drives like against scUM then that will definitely boost his status. There's no clear cut answer.

I think he has to perform will when we play PSU and Texas. If he performs well on the national stage and leads tOSU to convincing wins, a lot of attention will be brought upon for the trophy.

In all honesty with the Brady Quinn hype machine, and what's sure to be a big year from AP, the odds are gonna be stacked against Troy. However, if he keeps up his big game heroics with a Buckeye victory in Texas and another win over scUM, he has a shot. Quinn is going to have the sexy numbers, and I wouldn't be suprised to see Peterson push 2,000 next year, so unless we are standing at 12-0, or at worst 11-1 including wins over Texas and scUM, it's going to be an real uphill battle. Bottom line, if tOSU is not competing for a national title, I don't see it happening for Troy.

edit:

What he said...and of course scUM.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

AP powered Oklahoma past Oregon, and they clearly were a BCS team.

Plus Quinn and Samardzjia almost beat the world champion USC Trojans.

Edit: seriously, AP is a MONSTER. It wasn't his fault Rhett Bromar wasn't ready to start, the O-Line needed to gel, and he was hurt. Bounce back? Oh yes. BXII Championship for OU, too.

Google  (South Carolina = K Irons)

#4 - Paul Posluzny (third or fourth best LB in the big ten last year)

How is that relevant this year? What elite LBs/defenders didn't go pro? not many...

#3 - Dwayne Jarrett (ok)

Might have been the best WR last year. Holmes is incredible, but Jarrett has similar speed with great size, and was healthier than Santonio.

#1 - Adrian Peterson (On his jock again???)

As methomps asked, who would you put here? I cannot think of a more polished star than Peterson. Put him on a team with any concept of offense or blocking and he returns to NY.

In response to JWins and methomps

Its March. Who should be #1 right now? Hell if I know. But AP didn't show a lot last year. He had a couple of good games and spent most of the year hurt.

Lets see him bounce back form last year before we crown him "king of the grid iron" again.

I was agreeing with Jarrett's spot.

As for Poz, if you're 3rd or 4th best last year, there is a chance you'll be the best this year. Or you could be #4 again.

true scooter, he does need to show some durability, tho I bet pittman would have had similar issues if you placed him on that team. Teams could focus entirely on the run, which had little blocking.

In most years, Poz is very good but one of those we question as top-10 material. With the mass exodus to the pros, there is a lack of star power on D (Bing, Whitner, Williams, Ngata, Sims, Hester, Edwards, etc). Due to that, Poz belongs in the top-10 imo, tho a little lower than 4 (7 sounds good).

Peterson has to be the odds on favorite going into next year. Quinn will be a close second based on the hype from last year. The media won't remember him getting exposed by the Buckeyes in the Fiesta. The Charlie Weis/ND love fest will continue and players like Quinn and Samarzjdia will reap the benefits of that love fest.
