We've had one of those "whistling past the graveyard" hurricane seasons here in Charleston.

Yup. Pretty bad indeed.
Jamaica is decently prepared for a strong Hurricane, but this one is beyond that. There were Hurricane Hunter reports last night of a "square" eyewall as it was strengthening. That's pretty rare in it's own right and extremely rare given the time of the year.
No storms went through the Caribbean this year - there's a lot of hot water right there to fuel it.
