One of the major standouts during Friday's event was Springfield, Ohio, linebacker Trey DePriest. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder has already garnered 16 offers, including Michigan, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. He quickly demonstrated why he's so coveted by posting a 32-inch vertical, 28 reps of 185 pounds on the bench, and blistering times in the 40-yard dash and the shuttle. It was the peak performance for a youngster who has already made a habit of turning in impressive showings.

"It's sweet down here," DePriest said. "It's live and it is a lot of competition. Everybody is cool. It smashes (other combines) -- every single one of them. You do a lot more and it is sweet."

DePriest found it so sweet he has already committed to playing in the 2011 Under Armour All-America game.

SPRINGFIELD ? Most colleges send football scholarship offers over the fax machine. Alabama?s offer to Springfield High School?s Trey DePriest arrived through the mail on 8?-by-11 glossy paper, unbent and unblemished.

Maybe that?s why the Crimson Tide are playing in the Bowl Championship Series title game at 8:30 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. More likely, it?s the players.

Some day, it might be DePriest playing in front of a national audience for a national title. Right now, he?s just looking for a good seat when Alabama plays Texas for the national title.

He might watch at home, on his couch. Or he might head to a local restaurant, where there?s a deal on boneless wings.

DePriest, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior, has scholarship offers to play football from several major universities, including Alabama. Sal Sunseri, an assistant head coach and linebackers coach at Alabama, has visited Springfield to speak with DePriest.

Alabama offered DePriest a scholarship in December. They sent two glossies ? one to his home, and another to head coach Rick Robertson at the school.

?The way they did it was luxury,? DePriest said.

No, he hasn?t made a decision about where he?s going, and he said the outcome of this game won?t be the deciding factor, either.

?You?re talking about a team that is one of the best in the nation. Whether he takes it or not, it?s still a great offer,? Robertson said.

Fierce Ohio LB loves U-M, but Ohio State making big push

Cheering for Michigan can be an unpleasant experience when you do so from behind enemy lines. Such is life for one of the top junior prospects in the country, Springfield, Ohio, linebacker Trey DePriest. The Buckeye State star is considered a Benedict Arnold in his own home when November rolls around and the Wolverines do battle with their arch rivals.

"He's not allowed to be there that day," said DePriest's mother Angela, a devout Ohio State fan. "He's got to go somewhere else and watch the game because we can't be in the same house," she added with a laugh."

That somewhere else is often the place where he first developed his appreciation for the Maize and Blue. "It was one of my friend's dad," DePriest said. "Trey Thomas is my friend and his father is John Thomas. I've been playing football with his son and I was always over there. He actually goes to (Huber Heights) Wayne (a rival school), but that is my real good buddy and we've always been cool. He had me watching (Michigan) and I've always liked them."

These articles are priceless. Either the recruit is infatuated with U-M and/or OSU is feverishly trying to persuade the kid away from U-M. They're bad enough on GBW, but when they hit the freep or DN, they're even better. I'm amazed any kid from Ohio who has an interest in Michigan ever ends up at Ohio State.
