Hmmmmm. I was never that impressed with the talent on the NC team. I was VERY impressed by the leadership and the determination, especially the seniors. A team of over achievers IMO and in no way a match for this year's team or the 97 Rose Bowl team on paper, but if the game came down to heart, they won it every time.

Except for Clarett, when healthy, the offense on the 02' was remarkably inept for a NC team. That said, I have never seen a defense as physically nasty, determined, or hard nosed as the 02' squad. It is very rare that you see a defense take a phenomenally talented offensive squad like the 02' Canes and physically kick their asses to win a game,w/ turnovers and hard hits. The D that year was not a bunch of overachievers, they were a bunch of brutal headhunters. Every starter on that D is still an NFL player except for Cie Grant(don't know if he stuck w/anyone or not).

Maybe you should explain just why you feel he isn't respected. He won a NC.
He doesn't have too many players wind up in jail. He has a winning record. And as far as I know he doesn't beat his wife and kids and hasn't been arrested yet for being a pedophile or a pervert. So just why is it that you feel he shouldn't be respected?

Well, this isn't a "smack" board, and we generally try to be reasonable and occasionally even complimentary when discussing the opposition, even if it is Michigan. To call Lloyd Carr an "IDIOT" and a "jerk" will not earn you much respect around here, but feel free to carry on ... we have no rule that requires one to engage in intelligent discussion and debate.

I don't care for Lloyd Carr, but I respect him as a coach and what he does off the field. It's not Carr's fault he's now coaching in the Tressel era :p

Absolutely....he was a great man and coach and not a whiny cry baby who could never beat OSU....yes he coached scUM but he was a coach here 1st and was born here and the man he was outshadows him as a coach...RIP Bo!

As far as I'm concerned feel free to hate whatever and whomever you want to. But don't make implications that some of us are not fans of The Ohio State University simply because we have respect for the opponent - any opponent, or think he deserves some respect from college football fans nation-wide.

I'd imagine that you can get away with disrespecting or hating Michigan, Lloyd Carr, or Chad Henne on this board, but challenging the loyalty of Ohio State fans here isn't going to earn you any of that respect.

Based on historical evidence? So pre-season rankings don't matter to you, but you'll pull the scUM/ND fan angle of history because we've taken it to them the last few years (not all that historical)? bottom line is, scUM has been "weak" the last few years but they are a traditonal power, and last year returned to their normal selves (makes me want to puke :)).

In the eyes of many recruits (not all by any means) the last 5 years is a majority of their college viewing lives. To that extent until last year, michigans last very strong year was '98, a long time for a lot of high school kids.

It definatley has changed in the last 5 years.. that means it's right on the fringe of the national title game (our 2002 game that is, and the MoC situation) and it means people like urban meyer are ranked probably below where they should be..

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here but my point was that kids making decisions now would likely see a higher upside to playing for a team that has been a Nat Champ contender for most of the last 5 years.

Well, I would go ask a scUM commit that question, they are still landing big time recruits or they would not be number #2 last year going into their last game. They are still respected nationally, probably get more respect than we do which is just shit.. but the clarett scandal didn't help us at all..

This is the starting point for this thread, why would a recruit (GG) choose scum over tOSU. I don't find it unbelieveable in the slightest (and it's clearly happening occasionally), but I just don't see why one would. My question wasn't rhetorical and I don't mean to demean scum, as they are, in my mind, a low top tier program/coach.
