Transfers (official thread of get me out of here!)

Iowa RB C.J. Hilliard transferring to be closer to Cincinnati home

Iowa announced via a press release late this last week that C.J. Hilliard has decided to take his leave of Kirk Ferentz’s football program and transfer to an undetermined location. The release stated that the running back’s decision to transfer was triggered by his desire to move closer to his hometown of Cincinnati.

“C.J. Hilliard has elected to transfer to another institution closer to home to continue his academic and football pursuits,” said Ferentz in a statement. “C.J. had a tremendous attitude in our program and we wish him the best.”

A three-star member of the Hawkeyes’ 2014 recruiting class, Hilliard was rated as the No. 55 player at any position in the state of Ohio. He took a redshirt as a true freshman last season.

While Hilliard didn’t carry an offer from Cincinnati coming out of high school, he did from the likes of Akron, Bowling Green, Miami (Ohio), Ohio and Toledo.

Ohio the new home for ex-Iowa RB C.J. Hilliard

When it was announced this past weekend that Cincinnati native C.J. Hilliard would be transferring from Iowa, the stated reason for the departure was a desire by the player to move closer to home.

In the end, that’s exactly what the running back did.

Earlier this week, head coach Frank Solich confirmed that Hilliard had transferred into his Ohio football program. To satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Hilliard will be forced to sit out the 2015 season.

Hilliard will have three years to use three years of eligibility beginning in 2016.

Wake Forest adds 2 grad transfer kickers

Wake Forest has added two graduate transfer kickers, including one who has spent five years serving a military tour of duty.

Coach Dave Clawson added Darren Ford and Eric Osteen to the team Tuesday. Ford kicked and punted at Division III Hope College while Osteen completed his military service after graduating from West Point in 2013.

Osteen, 28, has been a platoon leader, company executive officer and company logistics officer who most recently led U.S. Army operations after three hurricanes in 2016 and 2017. As a player, he had 29 touchbacks on 53 kickoffs as a senior in 2012.

Ford made 25 of 38 field goals and 99 extra points last season at Hope.

The NCAA rule of 4 years of elgibility in 5 years and the clock starts your freshman year: I wasn't aware that service in the military counted like morman missionary work, i.e. the elgibility rules in the aforementioned NCAA rule is suspended for the years in the military, etc..

SKULL SESSION: TCU TO LOAD THE BOX, COACH-IN-WAITING OPTIONS FOR RYAN DAY, AND THE MOVE TO JERRY WORLD

SOMETHING TO PROVE?
Joe Burrow and Jamel Dean enrolled at Ohio State as part of the school's 2015 recruiting class. Three years later, they're playing each other as starters on different top-25 teams.

It was never the original plan, but for Dean, at least, he sees his success as an opportunity to show Ohio State what could have been if he were not medically disqualified.

From AL.com:

Both Dean and Burrow originally signed with Ohio State out of high school. Dean, a former four-star cornerback, signed with the Buckeyes in 2015 but was medically disqualified by the program and ultimately transferred and landed at Auburn. Burrow, a former four-star quarterback, was also in the Buckeyes' 2015 class and stuck around with the program for three seasons -- the last two as a backup with minimal game experience -- before landing at LSU this summer as a graduate transfer.

"I'm pretty sure, if he felt like how I felt, he'll probably have a chip on his shoulder, and he probably wants to prove to Ohio State why he should've been there playing," Dean said.

On Saturday, their paths will again cross, this time at Jordan-Hare Stadium when No. 7 Auburn (2-0) hosts No. 12 LSU (2-0) at 2:30 p.m. on CBS in the teams' SEC opener.

I think the broader story here is the sheer number of players leaving Ohio State and quickly finding success with other top teams. It speaks to the Buckeyes' depth and the staff's ability to evaluate talent.

This year, you have Burrow, Dean, Darius Slade, Antonio Williams and Trevon Grimes all shining for their new teams.

Transferring from Ohio State used to feel like a death sentence, and you never expected to hear from those players again. Now, Saturday highlights are full of former Buckeyes.
