Tragic - Vernon Grant OK State Safety Dead

On behalf of the Oklahoma State family, thank you for your thoughts and prayers. Vernon was one of the most special young men that ever wore the orange and black. He was only 5'9, but was really a giant that was among us.

Didn't he lead their defense in tackles against us in the game? That shows a lot of heart, especially when the game was getting out of reach, he never gave up.

I started a thread on O-State.com to offer our sympathy. This makes me sick to my stomach and reminds me of how fragile human life is...even an athletes. I'm truly saddened for this young man's family and at the loss of such a promising life.

I left them a link to this thread, so you can all offer support in whatever way you feel it's appropriate.

I e-mailed ryno before leaving today to point him to this -- as my account over there hadn't been properly activated by me.

Your link will be a lot better. I am sure their fans are pretty much gutted by this swift and sudden loss of a fine player -- and from all I read here, a fine young man.

Not only did he play with heart, but he was an amazing individual off the field. Absolutely amazing. There's not enough praises in this world to describe Vernon Grant, the person.

If its any consolation, Vernon's mother passed last August and we all know that she was up there in heaven to welcome her son home.

As most have stated... our thoughts and prayers go out to Vernon's family. It sounds like he was an outstanding young man. We (tOSU fans) don't know much about him but it sounds like he was making the most out of his opportunity at Oklahoma State... playing ball while getting an education. RIP.

Wow! This young man has really touched some people. Great picture and great tribute, WangHo. We lost one of the good guys when we lost Vernon Grant. Tragic indeed.
