We got up a little early (eh, I got up a klittle early, she got up a lot early then went back to sleep) this morning so we could see it before it set. Had a great view from our bedroom window.

Yes, it had a really nice "banked coal" appearance up where I live in SoCal. I got up at 3, it was already fully eclipsed. It flickered to which made me think of a coal as well. My camera doesn't take night shots well unfortunately.

Keep your eyes to the sky tonight - Columbus will be in a prime position to view the last total lunar eclipse until the end of 2010.

During a lunar eclipse, the moon glows a smoldering red.

"It's (a) very dramatic effect," said Don Terndrup, associate professor of astronomy.

A lunar eclipse happens when the sun, Earth and moon align perfectly so that the Earth stands between the sun's light and the moon.

Cont'd ...
