Am I the only one who thinks these designations are completely meaningless, whether it is given to us or someone else?

I disagree, b/c you look at the way Miami was talked about in recruiting articles by top recruits b/c of how they put players into the NFL, b/c they were known as NFL U.

If recruits see all these guys getting drafted and shining in the NFL and then see you as WR U and CB U then they are going to be impressed.

As for it holding in weight other than that, I don't think so, but that could be a big factor in determining where a recruit will attend.

I find it sad that they only count the last 20 years or so for their position awards and they BARELY mention David Boston in that article

That said though, I like being the only Big Ten team to have won an award... and TWO at that!

I don't know...I guess so. Really though, I think recruits are much more impressed with running off a list of players (e.g. "Come to Ohio State as a corner, if you want to follow Winfield, Plummer, Clements, Gamble, and Youboty into the NFL") rather than some artificial designation, made up by pundits and ESPiN people. Since we are one of the elite Universities, I think we can run off a list of those players at most positions, whether we're "Left Guard U" or not.

kids go to college in order to get prepaired for a career. be that in sales or the NFL. if im going to go to your school to play football you better believe im going to be real interested in how successful you have been at placing people in the past. most importantly in my respective position. it does me little good to go to a school ranked last nationally in placing economics majors if thats the field that interests me.

on a side note. aren't cb's and wr's supposed to be fast? aren't we kinda in the north n such..? how on earth did we get on those lists???? :p

I agree, but you point out that success to recruits by pointing to 5 guys now in the NFL, or guys in the Hall of Fame, or guys on TV who played here...whatever it is...not by proclaiming some self-annointed or media outlet-annointed title of "Position U".

true, but the more poeople repeating what your guys say the better. even if their opinions "should" be worthless.

Don't like them at all. Meaningless like you say. When another school is awarded Linebacker U, I always think "That's BS". I don't think you can designate one school over another as a better producer of talent at a certain spot. And grading past performance is subjective more than anything else.

I have to assume this has been thought of (and probably posted somewhere already)...but I'm only smart enough that the thought just crossed my mind this morning.

The 2006 starting WRs, Ted Ginn Jr. and Anthony Gonzalez: "7-Eleven...We're open all night." :tongue2:

Maybe someone less graphically challenged than I could make up a logo in scarlet and grey and get the media campaign started. :osu:
