tOSU vs. Sparty, Fri 3/13 @ 8:55p ET, BTN

Here's to some rest and the 8 seed in the region with Nova as the 1. We matchup by far the best against them as opposed to UK, Duke, UVA, Wisc, AZ

If Scott plays offensively like his last 2 games and Russell starts shooting more like his season % from 3 we have a decent shot

Yeah he showed very little effort on offense most of the game. Not moving a step on numerous possesions once he got the ball. Scott should have kept shooting the whole game once it was obvious he was on.
Scott was only 4-13, not really a stellar night. Even with his lack of effort, Russell put up the most points and had the second highest FG percentage. I wonder if it's time for a shake up in Thad's staff to be honest.

I don't get how Scott has these games where he flat out can't stay in front of his player. Tonight was the same crap that happened against Spike in the scUM game. He is mich quicker than Spike and Trice....

I honestly think a fair bit of it has to do with not competing with Craft anymore. I think having Craft around pushed him to give 110% every second, whereas his defensive competition now is DAR (and while no slouch, not near the same defensive intensity as Craft). I noticed right away this year that Scott seemed to be a little less intense on defense, and I'm pretty sure his steals are down, something I remember both him and Craft doing a lot of last year.

He seemed like he had a way better night then that I was expecting more of 7-13. And yeah Scott being abused off the dribble by Spike was bad. He or Sam are the usually the quickest guys on the floor any given game but Scott was beat on the drive a lot this year by much slower players.

Didn't like the zone either against Mich St. They only have 2 people that are offensive threats in Trice and Valentine and they mainly just shoot 3a at this point, all Dawson's points are put backs and offensive boards. We just can't run zone bc we don't shift fast enoug and obv can't rebound

I was thinking it was a simple case of being tired
Pretty sure this is the first back to back games of the season
which also means this is the first back to back games true freshman have ever had
Tired legs = poor defense
Tired legs = shots fall short
Tired legs = out rebounded

This team can be so frustrating to watch. earlier in the year I was screaming at the TV, now I just sit and watch in silence. Forgive me for stating the obvious. They go into extended periods where they don't play good defense, especially in transition. The shot selection is mostly horrible. The players do not move well without the ball. And we lack a credible big man on O and D. That said, Thad has spoiled us over the years, and he is allowed to have a down season. The stars just didn't line up for us this year talent wise and from a basketball IQ standpoint.

We'd have to beat the 9 seed first. :ohno:

Agreed that we should appreciate Thad. It's pretty impressive that for him a "down year" is 24 or so wins.

That said, this team is pretty brutal to watch. They have no identity on either side of the floor. It's hard to tell what they are even trying to accomplish with their offensive and defensive sets. I feel bad criticizing Shannon Scott b/c he has been a class young man from day 1, and it's not really his fault that other players haven't stepped up, but there are a lot of games where he is #2 option on offense, which is probably the exact opposite of the formula for a good offensive team. Amir has taken enough criticism from other people so I don't need to pile on here.

Looking forward to next season. The recruiting class looks like it's not only talented but the pieces fit together well. That + the chance that D'Angelo stays b/c of the NBA cap issues could have us back to being elite + entertaining, which would be a welcome change.
