2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Wasn't that the year he got Golic's kid in? For those too young to remember; Golic's kid was, perhaps, THE cautionary tale of over hype from a recruiting analyst(s) because anyone with eyes that wasn't swinging from ND or Mike Golic's nuts could see he wasn't even really a high D1 prospect. Let alone a 5 star all American. He could have gotten hurt out there.
2012 was actually Golic, Jr.’s last season at ND. Rumors of him being the imaginary girlfriend of Manti Te’o were never proven.

The Buckeye Bash is officially set for the weekend of the Nebraska game (Oct 24th).

For those unaware, most of the Buckeye commits and targets will be headed to Columbus (Jack Sawyer’s place) to hang out, check out Columbus/the campus and watch the opener together (off campus). The dead period prohibits the recruits from having on-campus contact with the staff, so this event will be coordinated by the players themselves.

Kurlic has confirmed multiple visits already from the players themselves, while Birm says that all the commits outside of Donovan Jackson (game conflict) and possibly McCord and Harrison (game time for that weekend not yet set) will be in attendance.

As for targets, Zen Michalski is all but confirmed by Birm and Tristan Leigh’s mother says that for now they are planning on attending. There have been preliminary discussions about Egbuka and Tuimoloau attending as well, but nothing beyond that yet.

I’ve updated the pinned visits thread accordingly, and will add/remove names as they come in.

Looked for 2021 OL recruiting discussion, but no joy. In bridge, we call a hand with Aces and not much else, "Aces and spaces". Does it seem to anyone else that that's what tOSU's OL recruiting has looked over the past couple of years?

A few months ago I felt pretty confident that Ohio State would top 25 signees. And if it did, I believed the Buckeyes would run away with the 2021 recruiting title.

Then Covid-19 turned a summer of no recruiting into a year of no recruiting. And along with everyone else in the country, Ryan Day’s program had to readjust plans to handle what turned out to be a whole lot of uncertainty. Even the things that seemed easy to sort out before, things like a player’s eligibility and years remaining, are now up in the air because everyone on the current roster gets an additional year if they want it. Intil the coaching staff knows who wants to advantage of that, it’s much harder to know how many spots have to be filled.

So where do things stand now? With 19 current commitments, Ohio State is going to finish with much fewer than 25 verbals in this cycle, that much we can reasonably ascertain. There are, in essence, three or four real remaining targets for the Buckeyes in 2021.

Just sayin': Pocketing a couple scholarships for some senior walk ons this year and additional ones next year might be a good thing.

tOSU could easily fill their 25 slots, of that we can be certain. To get the best 25, not so much. Better to ''pocket" a few schollies than use them up on 'fillers', or said more PC, on 'projects'. Truly, some of the 3*'s do in fact become first rounders, but methinks that they're the exception not the rule. That being said, you can quantify the number, height, weight 40 times, but you cannot quantify the heart. And/or the desire to succeed. Guess that's where these highly paid assistant coaches make their big bucks.....Go Bucks!

After every weekend during the football season Bucknuts wraps up the weekend that was in high school football focusing on those who will continue their careers playing for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes have 20 commitments total for their 2021 recruiting class and six commitments for their 2022 recruiting class. Of those 26 total commitments, many were in action over the weekend.

Quick Hits
  • Everyone knows that ESPN’s recruiting rankings are not exactly the gold standard, but it is worth checking in on where Ohio State’s commits moved around in the updated ESPN300.
The biggest riser was Donovan Jackson, who jumped up 15 spots to No. 68. Other guys who moved up more than one spot include Jayden Ballard (up two to No. 48), Jakailin Johnson (up two to No. 85) and Jordan Hancock (up three to No. 99). The biggest fall was by Denzel Burke, who moved down six spots to No. 268.

Overall, 16 of the Buckeyes’ 20 commits are listed in the Top 300.
