tOSU Linebackers History (Merged)

"Lets not forget that we have 2 of them that are the size to play that position that Will Smith played last year in D'Andrea and Carpenter. I can see either of them going down to the end spot on the line in certain formations and bringing in another of the many LBs we have to use."

D'Andrea or Carpenter will NOT move to DE...the coaching staff has already emphatically said D'Andrea is not moving from MLB.

i seem to recall reading somewhere that kerr was strictly a MLB. i'm not sure if it was the case that he couldn't or just wouldn't play OLB. does anyone else remember this or am i imagining things?

I've read the same things, although I don't recall exactly where. More specifically, I remember reading that while he has a great nose for the ball, he simply doesn't have the speed to play anywhere but MIKE.

This whole thing about him not having any speed is absolute horse crap. He was the Freshman of the Year on Defense.....for the whole fricken conference......he had garbage DT ahead of him that more or less stood around and got blocked. He still fought through them and made tackles...Everybody runs on Indiana but someone has to make stops and he was the guy.....Hell he had 13 tackles against us for Christ's sake....

He could be better than Carpenter....He could be hungrier....we don't know because nothing has been reported since he was rumored to leave and he stated that he would be the starter at MLB at OSU. No one has done a story on him at all.....no one has said anything about his practice play......we have heard nothing....We assume that Bobby Carpenter, while outstanding, is so much better than Kerr....It is like saying that Smith is so much better than Boeckman....it is too early to say...

I am betting that Kerr is a starter by mid-season.....read it anyway you want....if he is half as hungry as he says he is....if he plays with the same intensity that he did at Indiana...we could have another All American on our hands!

Hey, I was just relaying what I remember reading. I believe I heard that from Duane back when I was a prem. member at Bucknut$. I wasn't insulting Kerr or anything, I was just offering a possible explanation as to why things are the way they seem. The things I've heard about Kerr indicate that it makes about as much sense to play Kerr at WILL or SAM as it would've to have played Wilhelm there.

No offense taken......It will be interesting to see how much and where he plays. He has to feel like it is him against the world trying to prove his merit. I know he can play...if he was 2 inches taller he would of had a scholie! As always we have to wait and see.

I love his attitude, and if the Buckeyes could put 22 guys on the field that that think like him, that'd be great. Kerr is a great story, but Schlegel's is very similar. Coming out of the state of Texas and going to USAFA is about the equivalent of coming out of Cleveland and going to Inidana. Both have worked hard and earned their way to Ohio State. For as much as Kerr wants to start now though, I just think that Schlegel and everybody else have done too well to be overtaken. However this shakes out though, it's great to know that we're gonna have one damn fine LB corps, and that even in the case of injury, there will be talented individuals who can step in for them.

A lot is always stated about the rotation of players on the DL but as we can see with our depth and talent we can also afford to give starters a breather and let #2's get a few reps.....We play so much nickle and dime (pardon the term) that several DB's get reps as well. I believe that is why we are such a dangerous defense!

Carpenter has been taking reps at DE as well as OLB throughout the spring.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I dont' think either will ever officially switch to Defensive End. I wouldn't be surprised however to see defensive sets with 4 of our Linebackers in the game together with either Carpenter or D'Andrea up on the line. I think this is especially likely if Frost or one of the younger guys don't make a step up opposite Fraser.
