Game Thread tOSU at USC, Sat. Oct. 31st, 7:30 pm ET, NBC

Not a surprise at all. Any time somebody says Vegas is smart, point out this game. I can't believe tOSU was favored.

--Cross country trip on the road with a brand new QB
--Of which QB has no experience at all and looked completely out of his depth when he showed up last week. He was completely unprepared - likely the fault of the coaching staff but also his inherent limitations. He's not a tOSU caliber QB.
--The D is not that good. There are no documented NFL starters on this defense. They got shredded by Starch Manning who isn't that good to begin with
--The head coach is no Cignetti.
--Track record of horrific special teams

And I normally criticize day for not playing to his teams strengths and covering their weaknesses...

But the one instance he tries to do it, he thought they would be able to run down USCs throat on the first buckeye drive, go up 7 and then protect Fahey by limiting how many times he passed by running the ball and running out the clock. But USC scored first and he kept with the game plan. But then they went up two scores, and he kept with the game plan. Then they came out at half time. And kept with the game plan.

They were so absolutely positive they would come in and push USC around that there was NO PLAN B AT ALL! I want to see, between the end of the 2nd quarter and into the third quarter, how many actual minutes Fahey went without throwing the football. Your QB is going to have ZERO confidence in himself when the OC and HC show zero confidence in him. And that's going to lead to him pressing even more than he would otherwise when trailing in a game. And when you're six plays into a drive and behind, he's going to lock up and try ULTRA HARD when he had to make a pass attempt. With a young QB you throw on the early downs when the defense is playing the run. Day did the exact opposite of that. Fahey was getting very few attempts and then when he got a chance to throw, it was a potential drive ending situation.

The term coaching malpractice is popular and extremely overused, but that's exactly what Day's handling of Fahey was today.

I’d love to hear an explanation from the refs on why Wafle wasn’t called for a head slap on that 4th down play. It was a vicious right that nearly knocked Daniel’s down. They had no problem calling holding, but couldn’t see a very obvious penalty there, what else is new, I guess?

It was blatant. Full wind-up forearm to the side of his head.

Yeah, I thought USC played with a lot of extra after the plays were over on D. Wish thug activity would get called more often.

Honestly, I expected a loss between either IU or USC with a lot younger team this year. Fahey reminds me a lot of…….Craig Krenzel. Hopefully this game will continue to build his confidence. He does have moxie and did avoid interceptions, but he needs to step into his throws and stop overthrowing his receivers. I hate games in which we have more total yards and lose. Should never happen. It seems to happen to us quite often. Look at most of our losses compared to our total yards vs the opposition, and you’ll scratch your head like I do.
