I just unearthed this gem....

Just a few thoughts....

A. After starting out 24-0, Urban Meyer is now 1-3 in his last four games at Ohio State.

F. The playoff run is over in week 2, so the coaching staff should have two goals from here on out:

(1) find out which of the youngsters can play, and get them playing time; and​

(2) BEAT MICHIGAN!!!​

Similarly, after a 16-game winning streak, Ryan Day is now 1-3 in his last four games, having lost the 2025 Big Ten Championship Game (to Indiana), the 2025 Cotton Bowl (to Miami), and the 2026 marquee out-of-conference contest (to Texas).

Of course, Urban Meyer quickly righted the ship in 2014 and won the title (and beat scUM) despite my writing off the season in week two.

Can Ryan Day do the same in 2026?

Meyer's two losses to Clemson and VT were terrible and much worse compared to any of Day's losses (maybe except that championship loss to Bama).

I hope leadership emerges and Sayin can right the ship from now on.

I stand corrected on using "much better" and would like to rephrase it as "better than the 1-point suggested."

JJ's first drop was a timing issue, and he barely turned when the ball touched his hand. I blame the Texas pass rush.
The defender had his arms on JJ when the second ball hit his hands. It would've been a spectacular catch if he held on. Kinda like the two drops Chris Henry had in the first game.

The fourth quarter Texas went on an unprecedented heater while it seemed Bernie Lootz was standing next to CoachDay. Plenty of weird luck to go around ….

Frustrating loss.

But, let's not kid ourselves, that pick was not Ohio State skill beating Texas. Indeed, that should have been 6.

That said, its just mind-boggling... despite all that went wrong Ohio State could have nonetheless eked out victory. 4th and 8. 4th and 6. Misfire to McGuin. Missed fg. It was a literal comedy of wtf.

Going for it on 4th and failing early in the game. I had no problem with the call at the time. Chip shot FG would have been enough. I wonder. Left points on the field against Indiana the same way.

I never even count that loss to Bama. Anybody in their right mind knew the Bucks weren't beating what was probably Saban's best team at Bama when they went in down 20 players to Covid and then losing the best offensive player on the first play of the game. If the Bucks had played something resembling a full schedule that year like Bama did, and weren't decimated by Covid it would have been a better game, but I still don't think they were beating Bama that year. That whole season was geared towards getting revenge on Clemson, and they accomplished that.

I think the only thing you can ding Day on for Bama is his hiring of Coombs as DC which was a disaster. Bama's O was nasty, but we also didn't help with awful play calling that allowed Tuf Borland to be in coverage 1-on-1 with Devonta Smith

Excellent post. After my several not-to-kind posts about the game's result, this post has got my head back on straight. The only real tough game from here to The Game is at Indiana. The games at Iowa and USC and Indiana will be tough, but if we win those (or even drop a close one at Indiana), we should be 11-1 (9-0)/10-2 (8-1) at the end of the regular season (I'm not worried about the Oregon and scUM games in The Shoe).

I’m sure this has been mentioned, but I just realized how closely this game mirrored last year’s matchup. Go up early, stifle Texas for 3 quarters, and then Texas suddenly had a chance to tie after it being 14-0 forever. I even remember someone saying how it’d be a crazy choke right before Downs stopped them on 4th.

This year they were a lot more aggressive and better on offense until they weren’t, and the defensive scheme worked until it didn’t. A combination of a young defense, playing at Texas, and Texas having a better offense all turned the tide compared to last season. Funny enough, if Day was as conservative as he was last year, they win this game. Instead they went for knockouts, failed, and tried to run clock when it was too late.
