Game Thread tOSU at Texas, Sat. Sept 12, 7:30 pm ET, ABC

“Very excited. Second game of the season, all that nervousness, all that jittery is out the door. We’re coming. There’s business to be taken care of.”– Colin Simmons on Texas’ rematch with Ohio State

Simmons, who told Texas beat reporters before last season’s Week 1 matchup with the Buckeyes that he was “glad that they have a quarterback that I’m ready to sack,” was limited to just two tackles in his team’s seven-point loss.

According to Ohio State offensive lineman Phillip Daniels, Simmons talked better than he played in the top-two showdown.

The week after the Buckeyes’ win, Daniels recalled a moment when Simmons called him “trash” between snaps. On the next play, Simmons drew a 15-yard penalty for knocking Daniels’ helmet off — a flag that not only gave Ohio State a first down on what would have been a third-down incompletion, but also helped set up its first of two touchdowns in the game....

“I don’t talk trash, I’m really, I’m an offensive lineman, I’m tired,” Daniels said on Sept. 3, 2025. “But if you try me, I’m not just gonna stand there and let you say something to me, you know what I’m saying? I’m gonna respond, either on the football side or both.”

Am I forgetting something, but wasn't Brandon a 5* coming out of HS, and Carnell only a 4*? But, Carnell came reported in December, and Brandon in July, and Carnell had gained enough of an advantage that he never relinquished his position. Someone will correct my error, am certain. Anyway, do believe that Brandon will have a world-beater year, and will be (another) first round selection. And re: the thread, the DL will be stout enough that Texas QB won't have enough time to set up, let alone try to thread amongst our DBs...

You're right.

Also, on this game. We have the best OL, QB, Skill in this game. Give me Patricia over Muschamp all day too. Especially with a QB like Manning who’s really at his best as a runner. When was the last time a running QB hurt OSU?

Hopefully, your scenario will lead to a break-out game for one of the new LBs, who will spy Manning all over the field, and send him to the whirl-pool to ease his black-and-blue body. If Manning is going to earn his Heisman hype, he'll have to start with the Buckeyes, and hopefully our DBs will be up to the coverage task, FORCING him to try to earn yards with his feet. Love the Buckeye 'coverage' sacks.

Steve Sarkisian is already trying to build in an excuse for another Ohio State loss

The Texas coach continues to whine about the fact that he can't coach his team to the College Football Playoff.

In each of the last two seasons, the Ohio State Buckeyes have taken Texas behind the woodshed. First, it was in the Cotton Bowl in 2024 to make the national championship. Last season, they opened up the season with a victory over the Longhorns in the Shoe to start off a 12-0 campaign.

Texas failed to make the College Football Playoff last year after falling to the Buckeyes. Despite the fact that they lost two other games, Steve Sarkisian seems to be blaming the reason they missed the CFP on the fact that they even had to play Ohio State in the first place.

Steve Sarkisian is getting an excuse ready for another Ohio State loss

While speaking at Media Day, Sark claims that the reason they missed the CFP is because of that Week 1 loss to Ohio State.

"If we beat Ohio State (last year), we're surely in a much better place for the playoffs. If I don't play Ohio State and play Jones Jr. High, we're 10-2 & our losses are to Georgia and Florida, and we're a playoff team."

Ignore the fact that the Longhorns lost to 4-8 Florida. Go ahead and blame the fact that you couldn't beat one of the worst teams in the SEC instead of one of the best teams in the country. Sark is whining that he can't play a poor schedule like the rest of the SEC does.

It sounds like Sark is getting ready to say this exact same thing nine months from now after Ohio State beats the Longhorns in Austin in Week 2. It really seems like he's already thinking about excuses for losing that game instead of trying to actually coach his team well enough to win.

Of course, it has to be the schedule's fault. It can't possibly be that Sark can't actually win big games. It certainly can't be his fault. If Ryan Day pulverizes him again at the beginning of August, it won't be Sark's fault! It's the athletic directors who scheduled this game in the first place.

He’s not wrong. I think their issue was they lost to Florida who was terrible.

The next 9-3 team to make it will be the first. It absolutely rewards teams who don’t lose games. If you’re scheduling teams like Texas that’s not particularly fair.

If we lose 3 games this year (let’s say it’s Indiana, USC and Texas) it’d be criminal to not be in the playoffs
