Buckeye Samurai of Big League Blitzkreig
Aug. 30 vs. Navy (at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore)
Last year: 9-4
Bowl game: Beat Middle Tennessee State, 24-6, in Armed Forces Bowl
Bottom line: The Buckeyes will have all summer to prepare for Navy's quirky triple-option offensive attack. They might need it. After all, the Midshipmen nearly pulled off a season-opening upset at Ohio Stadium in 2009. Ohio State has opened the season with a win each year since 2000. This could be the Buckeyes' toughest non-conference affair.
I am frustrated. tOSU will spend the entire month of August working on beating a team that ranked 122 (out of 123) in passing offense. And even time spent working against the run will not be worthwhile, because the triple option will not be seen again. Northwestern is not even on the schedule and won't be able to run 1 or 2 triple option plays. This is an obstacle to overcome.
The only slight good news I can find is that we have a chance to win because Navy won't pass much. Also, maybe this game and the VTech game will help recruiting in Maryland and Virginia and DC.
