Two-Cent Overview
The Gophers have some talent on both sides of the ball thanks to Tim Brewster's recruiting, but it's either been untested or unproductive to this point. Quarterback Adam Weber enters his fourth year as a starter with diminishing returns following him each season. The entire offensive line returns, but who will they be blocking for? The defense only returns two starters (both safeties), but has some promising youth on the front seven. The schedule, however, will be the single-biggest detriment to Minnesota this season.

MTSU QB Dasher being investigated in gambling case
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Middle Tennessee campus police are investigating whether quarterback Dwight Dasher took money from an 80-year-old man to use for gambling.
According to a police report obtained by the Associated Press, Oliver Donnell, a patient at a Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Murfreesboro, reported Dasher to the police in July after the senior allegedly wouldn't return his phone calls.
Middle Tennessee athletics director Chris Massaro says in a statement the NCAA has been notified about the investigation. He declined further comment.
Donnell told the Daily News Journal he lent $1,500 to Dasher to use for a high-stakes poker game with the promise the Folkston, Ga., native would split winnings with him. Donnell also says he has been interviewed by a consultant working for Middle Tennessee to determine if Dasher's eligibility status was in jeopardy.

Middle Tennessee Quarterback Dwight Dasher Ruled Ineligible
Middle Tennessee athletic director Chris Massaro announced Friday that senior quarterback Dwight Dasher has been ruled ineligible for competition.
Massaro said in a statement that the school concluded Dasher violated the NCAA amateurism legislation. The recommended penalty is a suspension for 30 percent of the season. The school voluntarily sent its findings to the NCAA and is in the midst of drafting a letter of reinstatement.
Dasher is accused of failing to repay a $1,500 loan he received from Oliver M. Donnell, an 80-year-old man in a local VA hospital. Donnell told The Daily News Journal that he gave Dasher five $300 loans for use in poker games.
"What we do know and what we do believe is that there was an NCAA violation," Massaro said during a press conference Friday. "So, we need to resolve that issue. Whenever you deal with an NCAA violation, the best thing to do is to investigate it, to look at it, to turn over as many rocks and stones as you can, to make sure that you're asking the right questions to keep it contained so to speak. We've seen examples of a couple of schools here recently that may not have done that and are paying a very severe penalty on the backside. So we don't want to put our institution in that kind of position."
Massaro said Dasher's intent was to repay the loan in full today and, even though his amateur status is in flux, Dasher will still be allowed to practice with the team. There is no timetable for an NCAA response.
