tOSU at Indiana, Oct 23rd, 7:30 PM, ABC

I'd be interested to see the excuses from the cult.

What's the mystery?

"We got screwed by the refs"
"We should leave the B1G"
"OSU cheats"
"Success with Honor"
"Ryan Day is a classless scumbag"
"I'm still proud of our team for doing things the right way"

I may have missed a "it was an impactful call!" or two here and there but that's pretty much the canon of Joseus

Hey - you were supposed to say "Spoiler alert". Also, you misspelled O$U.

And don't forget

Clifford was injured (applies whether he couldn't go or if he was limited - that he was limited is proved by the loss)
Defense was discouraged by the Clifford injury (used only contextually, in the unlikely event that an O$U or Pitt fan sneaks in and mentions that Clifford doesn't play defense - that it was an O$U or Pitt fan is proved by the fact that they mentioned something so irrelevant)

BUCKEYES HAVE “CHIP ON OUR SHOULDER” TO RECTIFY 2020 PERFORMANCE AGAINST INDIANA

Penix and company came up short on a last-ditch effort to tie things up in the game’s waning moments, but the Buckeyes left the field with their fair share of disappointment as well.

“It did not feel good. Simple as that. It did not feel good,” Ohio State safety Ronnie Hickman said Wednesday. “It’s that kind of in between, you came out on top, but then you look at the stats and it’s a whole different story.”

You forgot the racist tropes hurled toward the HC of the local team.

“We are at home,” Allen said. “That's a positive thing. There's no question they do have some youth, some very talented youth, mind you. But it is youth. Youth is youth. I think you play on the road, expecting a big crowd, a loud crowd. The intensity and the energy, like we had this past Saturday, like we had at all of our home games, which has been awesome. That plays into that. “That's the best part of it. We got to be able to, in that moment, play our best football. There's no doubt that's the objective, that's the goal. That's what we're going to do everything within our power to do that against a team that is very, very talented, has a lot of really good football players, and they're very well-coached.”

Just sayin': I don't know may Buckeye fans will be in the stands at Indiana this Saturday; however, in years past....

The simple fact is Indiana’s offense just doesn’t generate enough yards or points to think the Hoosiers can hang with the Buckeyes. Indiana’s defense did a nice job with its physicality last week in limiting Michigan State, but it just resulted in another painful loss.

The Buckeyes have been the best road team in college football over the last three-plus seasons and I don’t look for that to change anytime soon. This one may not be over at the half, but I think a big third quarter could put it away for the visitors on Saturday.

My Call: I see more big plays for C.J. Stroud, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson and another strong performance by the OSU defense. I’ve got it Ohio State 45-17

For The Record: I am 5-1 straight-up with my Ohio State picks and 3-2-1 against-the-spread. Ohio State is a 20-point favorite over Indiana; the over/under is 60 points.

You know, taken out of context, a couple of those statements could get you banned.

But then I wouldn’t be able to check out that ass every time you post, so the context is understandable.

KERRY COOMBS
ON THE BULLET POSITION
  • Coombs said the position is versatile and helps cover athletic tight ends.
  • Coombs said the position is really just "an old-school strong safety."
  • Coombs notes that Ronnie Hickman has "had a great season" and is "plenty big enough" to play bullet at 205 pounds.
ON GOING AGAINST THE OHIO STATE WIDE RECEIVERS
  • Coombs says there's no better way to improve at man-to-man defense than going against Ohio State's receivers.
  • "These are the best receivers we've ever had."
  • Coombs says he can see Denzel Burke get more comfortable every day after playing offense in high school.

In addition to Kerry Coomb's comments (above) see Ryan Day's comments from both his Thursday's press conference and radio show.

After a 6-2 season in 2020, Indiana is just 2-4 this year. What’s kept this team from recapturing the magic of last year?

Osterman: The short answer is offense, and the long answer is just a more detailed version of the short answer. Indiana kind of sacrificed efficiency for explosiveness last season, and it worked well enough to win them six games. We wondered how much of that was the DNA of this group and how much was simply forced on scheme and gameplan by COVID concerns. But the biggest question this offseason was could they recapture that efficiency, or retain their explosiveness if not. And for a variety of reasons (one of which I think we’re about to discuss), the Hoosiers just haven’t had enough of either. One offensive touchdown in three Big Ten games, albeit against three top-10 teams, just isn’t gonna get it done obviously.

Ohio State is favored to win this game by nearly three touchdowns. Can the Hoosiers push for an upset like they did last year, or will they be too overmatched this year?

Osterman: I just can’t express a lot of confidence in Indiana upsetting anybody, even in a setting like the one we could potentially see Saturday, unless or until I see the Hoosiers score the ball more consistently. In every sense — red zone efficiency, ball security, down-and-distance management — IU just hasn’t found anything that consistently works or keeps this offense healthy. Until the Hoosiers display some of that, I can’t really pick an upset here. I could see this defense getting Ohio State off-schedule a little bit and keeping things competitive, but that’s about the best IU can hope for unless or until its offense goes up multiple gears.

In a college football season that’s already been full of upsets, Day knows it’s important for his team to stay focused on the task at hand, which is earning a win on the road in Bloomington on Saturday night.

“This team should never be looking at anything other than the game ahead of them. And we’ve learned that lesson,” Day said. “We’re still a work in progress, and we’ve gotta bring it every week. And we know that. We’re not going into this game undefeated. It’s not like that. We got a lot of respect for Indiana, and this is going to be a hard road game. Everybody in the Big Ten’s playing well this year, and you gotta bring it every week.”

INDIANA STILL CHASING FIRST B1G WIN
If you’re feeling confident that Ohio State will win in blowout fashion again this weekend, Indiana’s record probably has a lot to do with that. The Hoosiers are just 2-4 so far this season; they’ve lost their first three Big Ten games of the year, with their only wins coming against Idaho and Western Kentucky.

That said, the Hoosiers’ schedule so far this year has been as difficult as any team in college football, as all of the four teams they’ve lost to – Iowa, Cincinnati, Penn State and Michigan State – are currently ranked in the top 11 of the AP Top 25.

Unlike last year, Indiana hasn’t yet shown that it’s capable of winning big games. The Hoosiers were competitive against Michigan State last weekend, though, as they held the Spartans to just one offensive touchdown and 241 yards in a 20-15 game.

So while the Hoosiers have real issues on offense – they’ve scored just one touchdown in three Big Ten games – and will need to play better than they’ve played in all of their other Big Ten games to have a chance to beat Ohio State on Saturday, they shouldn’t be judged solely by their losing record.

“They’ve played some good teams. They’ve played some really good defenses,” Day said of Indiana. “So when you combine all those things and you’re off by a little bit here or there, a team that maybe doesn’t have a great record is a lot better than you think, and I think this team is much better than their record indicates.”

With three games on the second-half schedule against teams who are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally, including one against Penn State next week, it could be tempting for the Buckeyes to look ahead to what’s coming next.

Just sayin': No looking ahead just show up ready to play.
