tOSU +5.5 at Duke (ov/un 142.5) Wed 9:30 ESPN

Important to keep in mind that much of the reason for Buckeyes having "worst games ever" was likely the aggressive Duke defense - especially in the second half, when the Blue Devils really turned on the juice.

Bottom line for me is that this was one hell of a good college basketball game between two extremely good teams. I took much more positive than negative away from the game.

Very important crucial minutes for Ross, Williams and Scott. Those will pay off and benefit the Buckeyes down the stretch of the B1G season.

Before the game started, I had already geared up for a loss. Cameron Indoor Stadium is one of the toughest, if not THE toughest, venues for a visiting team to play in. Duke has now won something close to 100 consecutive home OOC games. The fact that OSU held the lead and pretty much stunned Duke in the first half was pretty amazing considering the starting 5 were not out there the whole time.

The fact that OSU had one of the worst shooting nights, and some uncommon mental mistakes (yes, Dukes D had a bit to do with these as well) and still only lost by 5 in Cameron is a pretty good statement by this team, IMO.

OSU still has some raw talent that needs some more polish, but I have a feeling that this team could easily be top 3 by the end of the regular season and will be able to play with anyone in the country.

Agree with all. After first half, tried to get a vbet down on the Buckeyes. Much more positive than negative. Matta found out some things to work on, so did the kids. Defensive intensity, and offensive intensity. Craft has had to try to replace the what, 45% of the offense that has left OSU? Last year he didn't have to score as much, so could play the 'rat game' and harass the opposing point guard into steals and turnovers. Which he did quite well. Now his role is different, looking to get open, rather than look for the open man.

Loved the D in the first half. EVERYONE was crashing the boards, second half, not so much. Seemed that the refs called more fouls on OSU in second half, and took away the 'tightness' that we could play D. Blocking out was non-existent in 2nd half, which led to easy follow-ups and put-backs. Basic basketball. Also had some inexperienced kids in an environment that was hostile to say the least.

This loss will pay dividends for the Buckeyes for the rest of the season. They'll need it in places like Indy and Crisler and Wiscy arenas when the B10 chips are on the line. Mark it down.
