The Top beer on the list comes in at 25% alcohol. The Reverend is strongest beer I've had at 10% and I could barley stomach it.

I've never had a Dogfish Head beer that I didn't like. They're strong but tasty!

I have tried Mephistopheles' Stout it wasn't that good tasting, Barley wines tend to be kinda foul tasting imo but they do the trick.

I had a tasting of the Sam Adams Utopias last year at a beer festival. It's a dark-brown or ruby color if I remember correctly but didn't taste anything like beer. It reminded me of a sherry or sweet brandy. It's very unique and while you could definitely taste the alcohol it was still very smooth, but not worth $150 a bottle IMO.

But when it comes to stronger beers, I'll stick with Belgian Triples (favorites are Westmalle Triple and Delirium Tremens, although technically that's a Belgian Strong Ale).

Belgians certainly know a thing or two about brewing good stuff.

I think the strongest beer I've had was Gulden Draak at 10.5%, but a lot of my favorites are in the 8-10% range. I have a bottle of Deus Brut Des Flandres at home, which is 11.5%, but I haven't had occasion to try it yet.

I agree, Delirium Noel is a damn fine beer too. But the problem I find with most high-alcohol beers (such as Barley Wines, double IPA's, Imperial Stouts, etc) is that they are mostly 100% malt beers. This leaves a high residual sugar level (barley malt is not 100% fermentable) and consequently the beer is too malty and sweet in my opinion, even if it's a highly hopped beer. But beers that use a percentage of sugar (which is 100% fermentable) in their grain bill (like most high-alcohol Belgian ales) tend to be drier and don't have that heavy mouthfeel and sweetness. I can drink several triples in one sitting but only one Barley Wine or double IPA.

Ok, so it's a barley wine, but it came in a beer bottle, tasted like fantastic beer, looked like beer, and a few of them did the job!
