College football is built on tradition, history and — rivalries.

One sports handicapper – Legend Jon Price of sportsinformationtraders.com has made over $6 million dollars in his lifetime betting on NCAA football but he says the most fun is wagering on college football rivalries.

And what can be better than something that can turn two complete strangers into best friends or the worst of enemies in a matter of seconds. Every rivalry from Ohio State-Michigan and Army to Navy is what makes college football the greatest sport on earth.

However, it’s impossible to rank in order the best college football rivalries. So with that in mind, here are the top 5 in our opinion in no particular order.

1. Michigan vs. Ohio State — The hatred between these two teams can be traced as far back as the days of Buckeyes coach Woody Hayes, who, following a late touchdown in a 50–14 rout of the Wolverines back in 1968, elected to go for two points. When asked why he did it, legend has it that he told reporters that it was because he couldn’t go for three.

Since then Wolverine fans have no love for the Buckeyes, and in the days following that 1968 humiliation, Michigan has turned the tables and leads the series which began in 1897. Since then the two rivals have met every year but five (1913-17) since 1900, becoming the nation’s most consistently heated rivalry.

2. Alabama vs. Auburn — For those that live in the state of Alabama — you have to choose. Will you be yell “Roll Tide” or “War Eagle?”

It’s not easy either way, and in a state with no major professional sports team, college football is king.

But it hasn’t always been that way. And because the Auburn-Alabama football rivalry became so heated back in the day, the schools stopped playing each other for 41 years.

However, hostilities eventually resumed with the game being relocated to a neutral site in Birmingham. Nevertheless Auburn fans complained until the games were shifted back to campus and the vitriol remains.

3. USC vs. Notre Dame — After Notre Dame N dropped a 17–0 decision at Nebraska back in 1925, legendary Irish coach Knute Rockne ditched the annual inhospitable crowd of Cornhusker fans, and took began flying his team west, where for the past 85 years they have continued their annual hostilities against the USC Trojans.

In a rivalry game that has produced more Heisman winners than in any other rivalry, many national championship tickets have been punched with a victory in this game. And although the alternate between their home sites, the game always generates the same excitement between two of college football’s most storied programs.

4. Oklahoma vs. Texas — Unlike a lot of college football’s rivalry games that are played towards the end of the regular season, one of the most unique characteristics of this rivalry is that it has been played mid-season since 1900, when Oklahoma wasn’t even a state.

Every year since, 95,000-plus fans pack the Cotton Bowl seats, as the Longhorns and Sooners take do battle on the field.

And although there have been several blowouts over the years, the action rarely disappoints and often times has had national implications.

5. Army vs. Navy — Patriotism aside, this is one of the biggest rivalries in college sports. And when it comes to football, these two sides put aside their solidarity for three hours every December.

There have been five Heisman winners and dozens of Hall of Famers who have participated in this rivalry, and although Navy has dominated the Black Knights over the past decade, Army has had its share of wins.

This afternoon of prideful competition is a perfect example of college rivalries at its best, but in the end, no matter what the score, America wins. You win too when you use sports options live college football odds that are updated in real time.
